MEDIA! Computer Games, DVDs, CDs etc

I’m sure this has been asked countless times.

Where can you buy decent foreign entertainment media in Taiwan?

“Bit Torrent, Pirate Bay etc” is the most common answer I get but it’s neither buying nor convenient.

English language PC games in particular seem to be tough/impossible to find.

Also correct me if im wrong, but Amazon wont ship many things here. Their Global site is useless.

Also DVD’s of anything but really common movies are tough to find

CD’s ditto.

After two years this is the biggest drag about living in Taiwan!

Suggestions anyone?

PM Big Fluffy Matthew.

Actually they will ship many things here. I use them all the time. They even ship some software here, especially older stuff. They ship all DVDs and CDs here, just watch the region if you don’t have a region free DVD player.

Thats good to know re DVDs,CDs and Amazon. However, its PC games that are really giving me a headache. How can one get any decent games (Blizzard, Bethesda games etc.) in English without going back to the States?

How long approximately does this take, and what is the approximate additional cost?

I’ve lost some “classic” DVD’s (eg The Third Man), some of which I’d intended to use for teaching, and I’d guess I’ve got little chance of finding them locally unless they’re in the 29NT cheapie bin, which I don’t have time to search, and which tend to be low quality.

The snag with Amazon is that the DVD’s probably won’t come with Chinese subtitles, which I sometimes need.

Is there an online source catering to the local market which carries a wide range of titles, including classics?

I guess not then.

Its become a bit urgent because I can’t get my usual Freshman external reader, so I’m scurrying around trying to find an appropriate and available Oxford Bookworm or Penguin Graded Reader that has a film to go with it.

Given that Amazon is likely to be my only hope, how can I tell if its likely to have Chinese subtitles?

Most on Amazon seem to be region two, which I’d guess is/includes the USA.

Do they usually have Chinese subs, never, or can one not generalise?

Try this guy:
Bade Road, section 1, alley 82, number 14, first floor
He can search for the stuff, too.
Right next to it there is another video store with really old classics, too. Quality is spotty, as you said. But they also have lots of blue ray, if that helps.

I also know of one store in Guanghua that carries English games, but I do not have the exact address. It is right on Bade Road. It was the only plae you could find Office in English, for instance. That might help. Sorry.

Not all the stuff in Amazon is multilingual, and Chinese subtitles are actually rare. If they do Spanish and Portuguese it is already awesome.

For games I use Steam: store.steampowered.com/

Who needs to get off their bum to go to a store to purchase a physical object in order to play a computer game?
