Where can I find Moccasins in Taipei? Something that would do a half way decent job of keeping your feet warmer in the winter.
Mocs? - to keep your feet warm? I think maybe muckluks from the far north would be more appropriate. Traditional mocs are simple soft deer hide although now they are often found made of cowhide.
I like them too, but not for warmth. If this is what you are truly wanting, try Jhonghe Costco. My last pair was a Timberland brand bought there. Poor quality and needed inserts to make them comfortable. I swear Timberland likes to insert globs of glue where they will make the mocs the most uncomfortable. There are numerous Timberland outlets around but the price is about twice that of Costco.
For warmth, I would have somebody send me some Alaska style footwear lined with fur. Not very traditional but, hell comfort is what you want. Mocs just don’t do the trick for warmth. Comfort in the warmer months - another topic.
You might also try to get some “boot socks” from the U.S. and wear them with about any high ankle footwear found here.
Thanks for the reply.
There are a few different kinds of moccasins, and this is basically what I am looking for: http://images.netshops.com/mgen/digimarc.ms?img=master:AUS006.jpg&h=125&w=125 They look pretty comfortable, but I am going out of Taiwan soon and don’t have time to wait for them to get here. May have to try Costco and see if they fit me for one, and if they are somewhat comfortable.
There is fur inside them.
Warmth is only one of the reasons I want these, I also want a pair so that when I fly I don’t need to wear shoes. Get tired of taken em off and putten them back on again during security checks, these would be very easy and still keep your feet warm at 35,000ft.
And certainly comfort is another factory, if I am going to be walking around an airport in these I want something that will stay on my feet and feel decent.
If you’re looking for warmth, you should consider not just mocs, but sheepskin slippers.
I’ve ordered some really high quality stuff from this company before, like hats and scarves containing a possum fur and wool blend, which are phenomenally soft and warm, far better then any merino wool, and well worth the price. The service and shipping speed were always great, too.
Thanks for the info!
Trouble is I may not have time to wait for shipping and another issue is size. With any kind of footwear the size changes so I would have no idea of my size for this type of moc/sheepskin…, I could give it a guess, but…
Actually at this point, I don’t really care if they are perfect, but would like something reasonable that fits well, warm and comfortable, and prefer to get them in Taipei. The next time I am home I may try to find some in a store, but for now just need to get something.
