Met a wanker in taichung last night

weird foriegner. asked me directions to Frog/Grooveyard, which I was curious about myself. i told him that i’d heard it was close by. i asked him to show me the paper again so i could see the address again, and he acted like the paper was a US hundred dollar bill. jerked it away from me and wouldn’t let me look at it. never seen anybody so paranoid. and this guy could speak some chinese.

i mean, you come up to me ask me for directions… shit i even asked a taxi driver the directions for him, then told him, “hey,i’m curious about that pub too. since it’s close, i can walk over there with you”. guy acted like i was gonna rob him. do i look/act that tough? total wanker.

pubba???

definitely wasn’t pubba. pubba seems like an open guy. this guy was scared of his own shadow.

by the way JD, i’ve got some coffee from Louisiana that knocks Starbucks on it’s ass. share it with you one day. fine morning like this should have some fine Louisiana coffee.

Chickory coffee like at Cafe du Monde?

I once had a foreigner ask me directions, and when I told her she seemed like she wasn’t interested in knowing. :loco:

That sounds great. Do you deliver?

 That was not me

I was in Taichung yesterday however… Went to SHOGO with my lady friend and the place was deserted…

The staff actually looked surprised that customers were walking around! Damn that place is expensive… Nice joint but why would anyone buy stuff there when you can walk down the street and get the same quality gear at a fraction of the price?

theposter - that guy might have been the same wanker that refused my handshake in the Pig Pen and then went and sat in the corner. Patronising prick… Did you notice where he was from?

My Taichung wanker was Canadian… Narrows it down a bit, right?

Re: coffee. If I dont get a decent brew soon, Im not sure what I will do… Ive resorted to drinking those little sachets of instant muck… There was a machine here that made a decent cup, but I think I broke it

pubba, you and i missed each other by inches, i’ll bet! i was there late. they were closing. my ass was sitting outside reading “Guitar Player Magazine” (suck issue by the way). i wish i could have met you and gone wherever you were going. how about tonight??? my wife’s out of town and i’m a little lost.

JD,
do i deliver? i can! i’ll put some in a little container for you. but you need a coffee maker for this.

Hi theposter

I was there about midday. Had lunch at a pasta restaurant behind SHOGO

Did you see the coffee Kombi van parked on the footpath/sidewalk near SHOGO? We sat there and had a coffee at about 1pm

Im always keen to catch up with friendly/lonely people… But problem is I live out in the sticks (Wu Qi)

Am going to the Taichung port later this afternoon and meeting up with a Canadian friend (non-wanker) tonight at a bar in Shalu

You are welcome to join us if you can get out this way?

Best directions I ever had were in Taichung.

Me: So where’s this party?
Her: It’s near a 7-11 with a woman selling corn out the front, you can’t miss it.

I like how they put the underwear bin by the escalator, so that people can suddenly remember “Geez I’m commando! Better pick up a pair!”

I have met quite a few people like the one you described above in Taichung. I can’t figure out why Taichung seems to attract so many of these kinds of people.
In my experience many of these people are long-term drug addicts with associated mental problems. As one counselor put it, “many long term addicts are self medicating an undiagnosed disorder". A former friend here in Taichung who was participating in a community radio project, had a similar problem. Usually he was fine, but would go on drug-induced rages for days at a time. I finally consulted a local treatment center for assistance, on his behalf . They informed me they can no longer accept “foreigners” in Taichung for drug rehabilitation treatment, without a court order. There are simply too many of them.

amazing! i never knew there were that many foriegners even in taichung. and now most of 'em are on the stuff. man!

i think taichung gets the rejects from taipei. probably.

This has got to win a f*'ing brililance/genius award winner somewhere.

Good grief, where do you get your stuff, Eric? Are you really trying to imply that most of the foreigners in Taichung are drug addicts, or self medicating but undiagnosed mental patients? Mate, I’m really starting to think it’s you that’s enduring the undiagnosed/untreated illness here.

HG

Yes I take umbrage at this claim as well…

Not everyone here is a burned out mental patient/ex druggie!

Some of us are just taking a break
