Well someone has finally been approved. And he has already left the field. head-scratcher.

It will be very interesting to see whether he will accept.

Well;
Fields = US$15,000
Millenium = US$1,000,000

Yes, it will be interesting to see. Either way, there is a movie here I’m thinking.

I understand and appreciate his stance on prizes so far. I’ve always thought academic scholarship should be first about the importance of the subject itself and second (but nearly equally) about the interest/love of the subject by those who pursue it, both teachers and students. But in my experience these two factors usually come in around fifth or sixth place after business and investment interests. I hope he accepts the prize (money) for his own sake this time. Also, it seems that there is not much remaining controversy about his deserving of this honor, perhaps unlike at earlier points in time.

edit: I see your point on the numbers, and if anyone should know, mathematically, how to hold out for the right numbers, it should be this guy (and I would think no less of him, because he still wins in my mind for holding fast to what’s important either way)

Agree with you.

I hope he takes the award and starts his own school/university.
