Mindless Left

The proper question is how long would slavery have continued in the Confederate States of America. What would have remained of the United States of America were all Free Soil states and territories.

Slavery, schmavery. Every society on earth, bar Oz and Canuckia, has practiced it at some point. As late as the 18th century 2/3 of the world’s population were under some form of enslavement (serf, slave, same difference). And the British and New Englanders may not have personally owned slaves, but profited handsomely from the transatlantic trade. So no one has the right to get on their high horse and scapegoat the Confederates for “inventing slavery” over 140 years ago. They had slaves everywhere; it’s not fair to pin all the blame on one region of the U.S.A. for a human custom that has existed since homo sapiens rose from apehood.

Mod Lang:

I quite agree and believe that this was EXACTLY the author’s point. Why bring up slavery now unless you want to talk about what is happening in Sudan or sex slavery in Eastern Europe and the Middle East and India and China and Southeast Asia?

The South was fighting for what it believed was its rights and ironically we would have to say that the US today resents the UN for telling it what to do, the South then believed that the North was impinging upon its rights in the same way. But another time another story…

The fact is that the first and only people to stop slavery from within and to recognize that it was wrong were Westerners. This is the same West that is continually pilloried and villified by “right-thinking” lefties in elite and less elite universities who have all read that “one book” that really says what it is all about and how can the US stand in judgment when like you know it had slavery and like the genocide of the Indians and like you know Afghanistan like our government totally like supported funded and trained Osama bin Laden. We like even sent Rumsfeld to witness his son’s baptism and circumcision or christening or something like that and he was even a regular (but secret) guest during Bush I’s tenure in the white House. Like so how can we like totally this is so wrong to pretend that we can like do these things and like not accept like the Taliban doing bad things because we are like all equal and like the Taliban was like a totally different culture in a totally different country and who are we like to say that the Taliban cannot like do what they want in their own country because it is theirs to decide in their own country like do you know what I mean?

I’m probably living on top of the bones of dead slaves right this moment.
And dead Injuns, and dead scallywags and dead carpetbaggers and dead indentured servants and dead Irish…
Whatever.

I even have a confederate flag that i’ve been meaning to send Gavin, Fred.
And i increased the value of my Jeep by sticking a confederate flag to the dashboard.

should possibly point out that not a lefties and liberals are called Vanyell

The trouble with the arguments of the people you cite fred is that they are not representative of the views of most liberals. People like Horowitz like to paint charicatures. Don’t take him to serioulsy

Why do we need them? Quote me! I have eyes. I can see. I have ears. I can hear. I have memory. I can remember. Don’t need someone else to tell me how leftists have just about supported every world dictator and mass murdering regime in the last centry. If it has been for victory in the votes and policy of John Kerry, democracy would have been stunted in Central America, the USSR would still be around, etc. The Jimmy Carters of this world are all the proof that I need. I don’t need Dan Rather to tell me the obvious.

The central core of leftism in America is the belief that America is the source of most of the world’s ills. America is too powerful. America is too properous. America is too free. America needs to be weakened on the world stage to create a kind of international “fairness”, and by doing so the world will start to like us. Greed will disapear. Terrorism will disappear. UN-style corruption will disappear. Therefore, it is no wonder that leftists support the enemies of the United States. Leftists truly believed that Reagan was wreckless and that Gorbachev was the saviour of the world. “Communism was just not given enough time.” And you still see this kind of mentaility today with liberals when dealing with Islamofacism. Liberals like John Kerry think that if we just stop being sooooo America, the desire for Islamofacists to kill all those who don’t bow down to Allah will just sort of go away. Therefore, we see liberals claim that America is “imposing” Democracy or Freedom on people that don’t want it or are incapable of it.

This house of cards is coming down after 911. People understand now that the liberalism of the past 40 years is a fraud. They know in their heart of hearts that given the chance, numerous Islamofacists, given the slightest chance, would murder them and their family. No amount of liberal Rodney King, “can’t we all just get along” is going to do anything. As a result, liberals are loosing the House, the Senate, possibly the Presidency, and most importantly, the Media Monopoly. This is why you’re seeing so much panic out there on the left.

Whoops yet another posturing liberal is given his comeuppance. But I am sure that he “meant well” and that he had the “right intentions” and he did give to “charity” after all. You mean it actually makes a difference how this money is spent. Hahaha

Mod Lang,

There was slavery in Canada, albeit on a very small scale

collections.ic.gc.ca/blackloyali … slaves.htm

I think race relations on historical events should enter a period of benign neglect. A few years back, Jesse Jackson wanted reparations paid to all African-Americans, whose forefathers and mothers were slaves. Why should tax money in 2004 go towards paying this example of political correctness gone overboard? Should I sue the British Government for disenfranchising my ancestors until 1832 and 1867? There comes a time when bygones must be bygones. Would African descendants of slaves rather make 30 dollars a month in Sierra Leone? Or would Native Americans rather live in Mongolia or Siberia. Thank-god enlightened politicians have given them tax breaks, educational opportunities, preferred hiring under the law, and other goodies to level out the playing field and address previous discrimination. Paying them reparations is one step too far!!! Too many people use historical events to excuse their lack of drive and ambition today.

Here’s a comparison of Bush rule to Fascism-seems like Bush is on the way to imposing some semblance of fascist culture in America…however, I expect that America is strong enough to resist this, and will turn him out in convincing manner next week:
oldamericancentury.org/14pts.htm
In “Fascism Anyone?,” Dr. Lawrence Britt, a political scientist, identifies 14 characteristics common to fascist regimes. His comparisons of Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Suharto, and Pinochet yielded this list of 14 “identifying characteristics of fascism.”

  1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism
Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

  2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights

  3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause

  4. Supremacy of the Military

  5. Rampant Sexism

  6. Controlled Mass Media

  7. Obsession with National Security

  8. Religion and Government are Intertwined

  9. Corporate Power is Protected

  10. Labor Power is Suppressed

  11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts

  12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment

  13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption

  14. Fraudulent Elections

Again, I ask that any Repuke supporters of GWB (as opposed to less biased Republicans) try to open their eyes, step back and take a deep breath and accept that they are mostly or completely wrong on their core beliefs and sheepish/stubborn intransigence-with respect to the Bush Admin and the direction of world affairs. Don’t try to cynically attack the messenger, just discuss the link. And, I won’t bother to respond to sophistry or negativism-I observe that it is a habit of several posters to use such tactics, and I have more positive things to do with my time.

EDIT: I appreciate Tigerman’s efforts in rebuttal, my above comments notwithstanding. However, much of that red ink would have been saved if he read the details provided at the link, and understood the examples behind each headlined point above. Cheers.

Who exactly is Dr. Lawrence Britt? :unamused: Other than this sophomoric little essay he wrote on “fascism”, the only other publication he seems to have is “June, 2004”, a novel which “depicts a future America dominated by right-wing extremists.”

The masses are fearless and remain unshakable in their resolve to crush the fascist oppressors!

:bravo: :bravo: :bravo: :bravo:

When I first looked at this, I thought I’d ignore it because of its off-the-scale-stupidity. But, OK, I’ll make a few comments (in red).
Afghanistan’s people have been brutalized – many are starving and many have fled. Women are not allowed to attend school. You can be jailed for owning a television. Religion can be practiced only as their leaders dictate. A man can be jailed in Afghanistan if his beard is not long enough.

The United States respects the people of Afghanistan – after all, we are currently its largest source of humanitarian aid – but we condemn the Taliban regime. (Applause.) It is not only repressing its own people, it is threatening people everywhere by sponsoring and sheltering and supplying terrorists.
An old book out by John the Apostle sheds light on the bizarre phenomenon that I for one cannot understand of right-wing-nuts who claim to care about democracy, religion, children, etc, while actually supporting neo-Nazism:

DB,

Right wing nuts supporting neo-Nazism does not seem terribly difficult to understand. I would imagine that most neo-Nazi supporters in the US could probably be described as right wing nuts. Maybe I’m being unfair on them? :idunno:

Hobbes:

How they are “described” is part of the problem. The Nazi party is a party of the left. Those that espouse its values and tenets are not “right” wing but only labeled as such by a "left"wing press. How can national socialism be something that Republicans would support? After all, we are the party of individual rights not group identities. Whether communist or fascist, the problem is always about leftist ideology that groups people rather than individuating them and their aspirations. The Nazis ergo were leftwing.
