So I heard that Ministry of Sound from UK is opening a branch club in Taipei sometime this summer. Does anybody have more information on this?? I checked out the MOS website and there’s a link to Taipei although it doesn’t work just says “coming soon.” I just know that it’s gonna be in Neihu somewhere.
I’m there already
What’s it like then? Wouldn’t it have been better for you to wait for them to build it? I’ve got this funny mental image of you standing in the middle of a carpack out in Neihu doing ‘big box, small box’ with your hands, to an imaginary beat, waiting for them to hurry up and build the damn club.

My mouth’s already watering…
A club of such repute here in Taiwan would truly be a godsend, but it brings a number of questions to mind:
Would it truly be foreign-owned? Would that make it “untouchable”?
I can imagine that some of Taipei’s existing clubs would be rather unimpressed at the prospect of real competition, so how long would it take for the local boys (mafia, police, politicians) to become invovled?
Who would the resisent dj’s be, and would we see a string of international guest dj’s on a regular basis?
The Big Babou
Since I’ve been in Taiwan I’ve been shocked at the names who have passed through 2F. How do they do it? Are they making THAT much money off alcohol and adminission price??
The Taipei Times had a big article last Friday on Ministry of Sound - Taipei’s next biggest mega-attraction. It supposedly cost upwards of $10 million, and will be open sometime in March.

Ministry of Sound seems so like 5 years ago. I remember they tried to open a Mars in Bangkok that went bust. I am sure the author is thrilled he’ll get lots of VIP passes. Who is this person?
Jules? You don’t know Jules?! He’s a trip.
And Flicka, MoS coming to Taipei is an honor. They’re saying: “We know how much it costs for you to fly to us, so we’re coming to you 'cause you’re so awsome, Taipei.”
And it’s only a 10 minute saunter from my future abode.
Still … the question lingers: “Is Neihu too far?” I think we should factor in the masses who come from Tianmu to party in Taipei. They will save on taxi fares and may be willing to go there more often than the inner city. Also, Neihu is growing so fast, it feels like Shanghai, only more friendly!
They’ll need whole squadrons of cops to do the piss tests for that place.
Didn’t Jules establish in that article that it’s not about drugs anymore? It’s about the music.
In the words of Miss Kitten: “I say it’s over!”

Here’s a long line of lol smilies.
“not about the drugs”? yeah right and like the pills on sale in the luxy toilets are health supplements…
there is no e in electronic music…oh wait sorry there is duh
is just a big chain restaurant-in-club-clothing…like partying at Planet Hollywood, or hosting a black tie dinner at Fashion Cafe. Spoonfed vanilla. just what taipei needs. a really big space serving mediocre music, cuz we just can’t get enough of the cheese. yee-haa!
re Sandman’s comment about the piss test: definitely. they will be raided, and bigtime. esp if they open anytime before the election…gotta look tough on crime to middle class voters…

I heard it used to be good in London when it first opened. But that was years and years ago and its long since gone out of fashion and now relies almost exclusively on tourists for its income. It did pretty well in Ibiza for a while, but now its just some kind of bland franchise operation. Cheese for the punters sold on the coattails of a no-longer-hip name. Perfect for Taiwan.
I predict it’ll be out of business in less than a year and then turned into a Walmart–what this city is really missing…
It’s in Neihu after all. The muddy land of the hyper marts.

with that kind of bucks behind it, maybe they have some arrangements made
No, I don’t know much about him. He writes the “Vinly Word” in the Friday section, the occasional feature article, former (current ?) sports editor at the TT. Can you tell us some more?
Is his first name pronounced “Jules” as in Jules from Pulp Fiction or as “Giles”?
dunno if youse need to be so hard on the place…so long as they book some big name dj’s i’ll be happy to throw some of my hard-earned it’s way…just hope there’s a ban on locals doing their naff ay-ay-ay-ay chants…
Owned by gangsters as a front for their multi-million dollar e-pill business. Wonder how much the pigs will get from it?
Well, no shit it went out of fashion. It was featured in the Spice Girls movie, for God’s sake.
I do plan to take a look at it, but it is really sad that the locals probably think that they’ve somehow arrived with this being built. How are they going to get work permits for these visiting DJs? Can’t wait for the show to start.
