First of all, I would just like to say a big hello to everyone on the forum and simultaneously thank everyone for all the interesting messages that have been posted here.
I have been a long term lurker on the forum, and have found some really great info from the likes of MUCHA man and others that will really stand me in good stead for my month long jaunt around the island in two weeks time.
Well, it’s been an adventure planning everything so far, to say the least. I have been phoning up places directly in Taiwan to book, as it is cheaper
than through an intermediaries like Expedia, and many places I want to go to aren’t available through western channels anyway. I had no idea that I would exhaust most of the phrases in my Chinese phrase book before even leaving my home, as practically nobody seems to speaks any English!
However, I have now stumbled upon a slight snag in my route. I am coming down from the Alishan and arriving in Chiayi at 5pm. Here I will need a base to stay for two nights, as it will be a launching point for a one day trip to Sun Moon Lake, and then back to Taipei for the end of my holiday.
I’ve identified Nantou as a good base, as I want to cut down the travelling time as much as possible as I am running to a tight schedule in the last few days. I would like to find a nice Minsu in Nantou but I can’t find any info (telephone numbers, email etc).
The only one I found was the Laurel Villa, but alas probably owing to the rave reviews this minsu has received on the internet, this option is booked on my dates. D’oh!
Therefore has anyone any better recommendations? I could stay in nearby Taichung if anyone has some good recommendations.
