And if this is so, then the lawyer is not just filling out forms. The lawyer will have to collect evidence (Davesbrother’s whole story) and statements, likely translated into Chinese, prepare for and attend a court hearing and ask the court to sign orders.
“A couple hundred Canadian” is an unrealistic amount to expect any lawyer to take on your case and see it through.
@Davesbrother Have you sought out police director Hsu Yao-pin? He makes missing persons cases his hobby, and has solved more than 60 already. - almost like he eats these cases for breakfast!
Not sure if he’s still active on FB. But here you go Dave’s brother that’s his Facebook account , he’s found over 100 missing people.
And he worked for a time in the foreign affairs police, so likely speaks English.
I reckon you should send him the link to this thread , and maybe introduce what happened in Chinese or ask someone on here to write it for you.
