You Mods might want to move or flatfish this, since its a bit tangential to the petrol headspace, but anyway…found an ants nest under the fuzebox of my Sierra today.
This raises some (to me) puzzling ecological questions. I’ve been using the car every day for the past month or so, and I don’t park in the same places each day, so, assuming the car isn’t a self-contained environment (and the “river” of foragers tramping down the front tyre suggest it isn’t) how do they cope with the frequent moves?
I thought ants were territorial. If so they will have to “invade” a new territory each time I change locations, and they’ll presumably loose whatever forces they have in the field each time I move as well. I’m surprised the Sierra nestsite offers sufficient advantages to compensate for the losses.
Any entomologists out there? Anyone got an Ardvaark I can borrow?
