Enough with the endless “news” stories about the injured model. Two weeks ago she injured herself in HK and filled Taiwan’s front pages and news channels 24/7.
Then over the weekend she flies home to Taiwan, the media gives the same blanket coverage of this non-event, and from what I could tell, people were riveted to the “drama” (at least it seemed to fill the front pages of every local paper over the weekend and seemed to be the only event on local TV).
No wonder so many foreigners feel that Taiwanese are out of touch with the outside world, with news programming like that. :raspberry:
Seriously, is that all that happened? She broke her collarbone? I mean shit, I did that when I was a little kid, and I didn’t need to spend weeks lying in a hospital bed. I mean WTF.
OP: You’re joking, right? Often watch the “news” in your home country?
The “news” is an entertainment product, not a deliverer or truth or fount of knowledge. It’s one of those industries (like the education and hospital industries) we expect to do the right thing, since their expected function touches a very deep nerve. However, at the end of the day, television news stations and newspapers are nothing but profit vehicles.
Now, some of these conduits are more “serious” than others, since that appeals to the segment of the population with a more serious outlook. The vast majority, however, are neither concerned with the sanctity of their subjects or edification of the viewership. They deliver slop because the public willingly consumes it.
If you do not enjoy these products, do not consume them. If enough people do the same, their ratings will fall and their focus will shift.
I thought that she cracked at least a few ribs and had some internal bleeding. I think the whole panic was caused by the fact that she was going to fly back with China Airlines. I mean special chartered plane or not…that’s pretty scary stuff.
I don’t know about internal bleeding; my wife said broken collarbone, but maybe there was more. But it’s still a non-story. Yes the US media hypes non-stories too. Recall all the attention given to Baby Jessica, who fell in a well ( ):
But I bitched about that non-story then; now it’s time to bitch about this non-story.
I’m surprised you found that even worthy of dignifying with a reply. I thought about it, then decided it wasn’t worth it.
You guys are spoilt bitches.
Where I’m from there is so much death and destruction that nobody even bothers reporting most of it. I remember coming to Taiwan, not being able to understand Mandarin, and checking out a bunch of people wandering around in a field. I thought they were probably looking for a body until I realise that they actually had time on the news to report that the harvesting season for some crop had started or something mundane like that.
So as far as I’m concerned they can report on as much celebrity crap as they feel like.
One of her friends should rent the movie “Equus” for her. The main character goes nuts and cuts all the eyes out of the horses because they witnessed him having sex. She’ll be so horified of horses, she’ll only ride donkeys and ponies from now on.
So which model was it? Please tell me it wasn’t Hsu Chi . . . unless there’s pics available . . .
BTW, it looks like Brad Pitt is OK after a brief bout with viral meningitis. But it looks like his relationship with Angelina Jolie may be on the rocks . . .

You can bet that the doctors at Taida will be fighting among themselves for the chance to examine her bruised boobs and broken ribs.
A rather sour note has crept into the reports that I’ve heard on the radio this morning, emphasizing how unfair it is that she’s being given privileged admission to and treatment at NTU Hospital when other “ordinary folk” in much greater need are regularly turned away or have to wait months for a bed to become available.
