Modern TV Interviews Lack Real Spark

Just watched the film ‘The Damn United’ on HBO, it depicts the managerial career of a famous British football manager Brian Clough and his rivalry with another top manager at the time, Don Revie. It contained an interview segment where the managers talked openly about their feelings about each other and their motivations for decisions, they rip each other to shreds but in an entertaining and informative manner!

What is most remarkable is that the interview is so candid and the presenter hardly utters a word, instead it becomes a conversation/debate between the interviewees. This format of interview is far more engaging than the scripted stilted ‘wiseman’ interviews as per the overpaid twat Jonathan Ross and Jay Leno. This is also one of the reasons I don’t like Ted.com too much or other Apple style presentations, you don’t learn as much as you think you will because you are only getting one persons point of view.

Wouldn’t it be a great idea to bring people from different professions on and hear them debate the reasons for decisions, real feelings etc in an open format.

ANYWAY…who would be YOUR choice to get together and have a face-off for the cameras? Two people or a group of people who have a bit of a rivalry there to give it some spark.

ITV isn’t what it used to be

That was a typo Mods…should be ‘modern interviews’ not ITV inteviews!

So hit the edit button and fix it.

I remember this recent incident that was inadvertently caught on camera when the ABC’s Virginia Trioli was caught showing her true feelings about the politician she was interviewing:
