So cool. You just don’t see that.

I’ve seen pictures of Earth taken from Mars and stuff, and they were rubbish.

This was taken was the EPOXI probe that is going to visit Comet Hartley 2. It was using the Earth as a gravity assist in Dec 2009. It’s now orbiting the Sun near the Earth, presumably that’s how they were able to take those pictures.

What does Hartley think about being probed?

Those images were taken over a period of a few hours, the moon seems to move so fast. In fact, the moon is actually pretty small, here’s the Earth and Moon to scale:

The pictures were taken from 31 million miles away, which is about 130 times longer than the distance from the Earth to the Moon. So the moon looks bigger because it’s closer. It’s only like 30.8 million miles away.
