I’m starting to think that Forumosa is the best rescource ever invented. Anyway…
Does anyone know what kind of vaccinations you need to get if you’re going to China? Or does it just depend on where you go?
I’m looking at possibly going to zhengzhou in Henan province, or siping city in Jilin province for about 3 months. Has anybody been to either one of these places that could give me some feedback? Thanks.
but I seem to remember reading that anywhere south of the Yellow River, some kind of protection against malaria would be helpful.
Anyway, the vaccinations I remember having to take are pretty standard for a developing country; Japanese B encephalitis, typhoid/typhus, tetanus, etc.
As for the cities, I can’t tell you anything about Zhengzhou, although from reading the Lonely Planet book on China a few years ago, it’s pretty close to a lot of touristy attractions. As for Siping, if it’s where I think it is (Northeastern China) it probably isn’t very clean.
I was in Henan in May. I visited several businesses and a couple of schools in Zhengzhou and a couple of the smaller towns south of the city.
My impressions of Zhengzhou were not positive. Several million people, lots of polluting industry and gross over use of individual motor vehicles. There was a constant thick haze over the city for the four days I was there. The fallout from the haze coats everything. Lung problems are quite common.
The smaller towns were much nicer. Better air, public transport, cleaner in general - but with far fewer conveniences. Oh well.
