Chinese Morphix
I just made this morphix available. The following site is in Simplified Chinese; if you don’t read Chinese, you will have problems
cosoft.org.cn/projects/cnmorphix/
This morphix supports Simplified Chinese, gb2312.
It is based on MorphixBase-0.4-1d, and pulled down all other packages from Official Debian unstable.
It includes:
Kernel 2.4.25
Xfree 4.3
gnome desktop
openoffice 1.1
fcitx input method
Check it out if you read Chinese [/quote]
I haven’t tried (or even downloaded) this Chinese version.
Morphix is another LiveCD Linux distribution, based on Knoppix based on Debian. I am just starting to learn about it; it apparently has the ability to download additional packages over the net, rather than trying to stuff everyone’s favorites onto a single CD. So its CD image is much smaller, but its potential library of applications is larger. However, it isn’t as polished as Knoppix; it doesn’t appear to have the ability to create a “permanent home directory” on your hard drive, and it is missing some basic old apps like telnet. The desktop doesn’t have some useful icons like hard-drive partition mounting icons; I haven’t tried doing that from the shell yet, but I assume it will work normally.
As an aside, I gave up on Knoppix – Klaus Knopper, who runs the Knoppix distro, refuses to put nVidia drivers into his distribution, IMH guess for political reasons (nVidia refuses to GPL their drivers, although their license makes it explicitly legal to copy them (without modification) for Linux distributions; my guess is that Klaus is a GPL fanatic). As my new computer has nVidia’s chipset in it, I had a choice between remastering Knoppix and switching – and Morphix conveniently includes the nVidia drivers. So far, Morphix is running beautifully on my Shuttle SN41G2.
