I also think the ‘mentor’ idea is an excellent one.

Had I had the services of the appropriate ‘mentor’ I might have avoided falling under the nefarious influences of such residents, and former residents, as MapoSquid, Comrade Stalin, Fred Smith, Tigerman(a moderating factor to be sure) and not trod unawares down the road to right-wing, pro-military, anti-fascist, anti-chomskyite, pro-USA dialogue that has become my lot in life.

Please, I beseech you all, [i]don’t let this become the fate of another newbie!..Do it for the Children![/i]

I was not sure about mentor. Truant and I had a beer yesterday afternoon and were discussing expat sites in Singapore and Japan.

Japan has tutors. This word is off the mark as well.

Nobody wants a teacher or big brother or sister. They just want to get on the site and stand on their own two feet asap.

Tash is new on the site and her post cleared up some of the nagging doubts I was having.

A welcomer or guide may be the answer.

:thumbsup: I’m also a newbie who appreciated getting a pm welcome after my first post–didn’t care so much for the smart-ass wiki when I couldn’t navigate my way around a few things. I pm’ed Maoman and he generously cleared up my troubles, but I nearly threw in the towel instead bothering him.

So, yeah, thumbs way up… sounds like a very good idea.
