Move away from Taiwan -- Stop posting?

If you move away from Taiwan, would you continue to post on Forumosa?

  • Yes, as usual
  • Yes, but rarely

But that shouldn’t be any reason for him to stop posting here from time to time – just as Ironlady and Alien still do, as I’m sure we all much appreciate.[/quote]
Interesting question. I think if I moved away I would stop posting (hold the applause, please). My new life somewhere else would be in the forefront.

I notice the lack of ‘no’ options in the poll - are we trapped for life?

OK, since the poll is now fixed I’d say that I’d probably continue to at least read/post for a while as a crutch until I’d gotten adjusted to the new place, at which time I’d probably quit but drop in from time to time. Also depends how many people remaining on the board I actually knew.

I was away for a while (two months in fact) and looked but once and did not post anything.

I voted “Yes, as usual,” but that’s not very accurate. I didn’t even know this website existed when I was living in Taiwan. I post here because I’ve never found a decent Hong Kong oriented forum. Foreigners in HK generally don’t integrate as much and they don’t have much of anything interesting or intelligent to say about HK, Taiwan or China. I’d also venture to guess that a much higher proportion of the posters here can speak Chinese with some competence; I don’t know many foreigners in HK who can speak Cantonese or Putonghua. I find this site and its posters much more interesting than any HK sites I’ve seen.

Having lived in Taiwan for so long, I’ve developed a deep attachment to the place. If I ever do move away, it’ll still have a special place in my heart and be in my thoughts a lot, so I’ll certainly want to keep up with what’s happening here. Although I may not visit this site or post as much as I do now, as I’ll no longer be so directly affected by many of the matters under discussion, I’m sure I’ll continue to log onto Forumosa as the best medium for staying in touch with life in Taiwan and airing my views about it.

Believe it or not, I never look at Forumosa if I’m not at the office as all I have at home is dial-up that hardly ever connects, and I SURE don’t waste time on it when I’m home on holiday. I don’t miss it at all. That said, if I was actually living away from here, I’d still use it, but only to stay in touch with friends I’ve made here.
