I remember a couple of movies from my childhood that I’d like to see again. One was The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, starring Don Knotts. I thought it was hilarious and would love to see it again, so I started the download, and will be able to watch it tonight. This got me thinking about other movies from way back. One was a horror movie that I saw from the top of the stairs while the babysitter was watching - it was a bout a woman who bought some African doll, and was warned not to remove the chain that connected the doll with its spear or something like that, because it would come to live. Of course the chain comes off, it comes alive and chases her around until she finally incinerates it in the oven, but not before becoming possessed by it. Can anyone help me out? What was this movie?
There was another one about kids living by the sea who befriend (or maybe rescue) a sea turtle and later on the sea turtle (now the size of a house) goes on the rampage but ultimately saves the man who saved it so many years before. Or something like that. I just remember being impressed by the idea of riding on a giant turtle’s back. Does this ring a bell with any of our older posters? Sandman, you would have been in your thirties or forties already I think…
I saw one once with a crusading priest battling with a community against developers? the culmination was the priest driving a slow-moving steamroller down a street. it was probably the worst movie I ever saw, at the time at least. we laughed our asses off watching it, though we may have had a bit of help with that It might have been a pilot of some kind. Always bugs me that I can’t remember the name. it was two short words.
A big kiss to anyone that can work this one out. Seriously. And a beer too.
A guy is shot by (I think) nazis (if not nazis, then some sort of war criminals), and left on a heap of bodies. It turns out he’s not dead and manages to survive. However, he has a bullet lodged in his brain and is told that if he ever overexerts himself, he will die.
Years go by and he manages to track down those who tried to assassinate him (and succeeded in assassinating others), except for, I think, the main baddy. At the end of the movie, he has finally tracked him down and is chasing him down an alley with a gun in his hand. The protagonist has a smile on his face becasue he has finally accomplished everything he wanted to accomplish and doesn’t care if he dies killing this guy. You never actually see him killing the guy, or dying himself, and are left to use your own imagination.
I think this movie was from the early eighties, but I could be wrong. I’ve Googled and Googled and never found out what this movie is/was. I think it was in English.
Hey, sandman, what’s that movie where there’s this poor American boy that gets lucky and wins a ticket on the Titanic and steals a hot chick from some posh English boy and they dance around with a bunch of poor people that look like your family and they’re playin’ bagpipes and ukes and then the boat hits an ice cube and there’s a lot o’ lovely smashing and flooding and dying and it showed how a cross-cultural and cross-class relationship might work for a couple o’ hours and then the flooding becomes a sinking and the poor unlucky American boy doesn’t get a seat on the small boat and he dies in the cold sea?
You seen that one?

Animation, probably Japanese: boy with green hair emerges from water, makes friends, but has to return to the water or he’ll weaken and die. I saw part of it around 1974 in Mexico. I was always curious to see the whole thing. Any leads?

I’ve actually rented some of the same movies about five times. I get more than half way though them before I reaize I’ve seen them, though, evey time. No one ever lets me pick movies, anymore, either, 'cause I’ve done that with friends, too.

There is this plane that crashes in the desert. The crew wait and wait a long time to be rescued, in the meantime having strong conflicts among them. When the rescuers appear, they cannot see the assembled crew. Eventually, the crew realize they have been dead all this time, and as the “rescuers” start digging up the bodies, one by one they dissappear, except the most rebel among them, whose body is never found as he’s trapped under the fuselage. So, he is left to wonder the desert alone…
