Moving things that don't fit in taxi around Taibei

Can anybody give me some advice on moving a sofa or things like that around Taipei? I wanna save some money and buy 2nd hand stuff, but if I wanna save, I had better not spend 3000 on a transport. Same thing is a fridge and a washer, simply things I can’t fit in regular taxi. Is there something like lorry-taxi?
I believe this problem is not unknown, give me some advices please. I am about to move next friday. Thanks a lot.

I had the same problem when I arrived. Bought a nice amoir from IKEA then … doh! :wall: Had no way to get it home. The cost to ship it was just as much as the armoir itself! So I spent an hour hunting down a taxi that was big enough and that had a rear seat the could fold down. (BTW Taxi drivers are so nice here!)

For your situation, I would check the thread about “where to find” master list. There is a listing for movers, I believe. Good luck!

I think blue trucks are the cheapest.

Every time I’ve needed to do something like this I’ve just hired a blue truck and driven it myself. I did this a couple of months ago to move some furniture I’d bought second-hand and it cost me 700NT including the petrol.

i hate moving stuff myself…queeen of lazy. So I usually hire Steven the mover. He’s great, cheap and speaks fantastic English. Also…he carries everything up to my rooftop (NO ELEVATOR) apartment for me. Try him at: 02.2366.1688 or 0932.396.030

with the blue truck… i was thinking about that, but recently (after the paraguay student killd himself on scooter) they wont borrow vehicles without local driving license i was too lazy to do until now.

about stever the mover… i saw his ad in jr.cafe, i cant believe its cheap though. i heard stories about the movers being not very cheap. how much would you think he will bill me for carrying a sofa, two chairs, coffee table, maybe 4km far and up to 8th floor with elevator? i guess it will be just those 3-5k i was trying to avoid paying. or?

thanks everybody

Give him a ring and ask – then tell us too.

I’ve used this mover Mr.Zhang, I believe is his name. Very cheap.

Doesn’t speak english but won’t try to take you for a ride.

I must comment on Steve the Mover.

My story is probably unique because I live 5,000 miles away from Taiwan and I hired Steve the Mover to “work” for me.

I bought furniture and appliances from internet classfieds. This wonderful gentleman, Steve the Mover, agreed to help me not only move the stuff, he paid for the furniture as he collected it using pre-filled and sealed envelopes for each buyer that was given to him at the first buyer’s apartment. He showed up at no less than 5 apartments all over Taipei and the surrounding areas, paid the buyers, picked up the specified furniture, and delivered it to my daughter’s apartment in Keelung.

He not only delivered the furniture to my daughter, he hung her new blinds in concrete walls, took the back off a dryer to check a problem with its operation, and agreed to locate and return to install an air conditioner appropriate for her apartment size!

Say what you will about better deals, prices, and service. Steve the Mover has not only done well the job I asked him to do, he went above and beyond the call. I challenge you to find better than that!

Call him! His service cannot be matched!

I’ve faced this situation a few times. Washers, refrigerators, a/c’s, large beds, and large wooden ‘entertainement’ units/bookcases, etc.
Here’s what I have done.
I asked at my local tea-shop for the regular blue-truck driving customer.
They told me. I asked them to call me next time he came in. They did, I walked out and met the guy. Told him I would like to rent him & his blue truck for moving this stuff. We agreed on a price…which was actually pretty cheap. And the game was on.
Now, when ever I need to move stuff…I call him.
He’s happy…I’m happy. And I have referred other folks to him.

Win-Win.

O.K., so you need to move some stuff locally or semi-locally (Taipei to Keelung in my case) and you need someone that, not only knows what they are doing, but someone you can trust, can communicate in English and Chinese, trustworthy, prompt, quick, efficient and nice to work with. How is that for a business deal. That someone is ‘Steve the Mover’.

He also sells used furniture if you need something and has local contacts for a smattering of other things like appliance repair. Give him a call: 0932 396 030 (Primary) / 0223 661 668 (Secondary)
