Just wanted to stop by and thank everyone who contributed to this tread. A lot of your advice helped a lot. Yesterday I landed in Taipei (after a very turbulent flight due to the typhoons). Thanks to my friends I was able to find a nice place to live quite quickly. I can’t wait to see more of Danshui tomorrow. 
Well, looking out of the window right now, “tomorrow” sounds like a good plan.
Make sure to take a little walk by the riverside and sample some of the snacks!

I’ve been busy exploring, although the weather has been a little depressing and overcast everyday I’ve been here so far. Enjoyed Fisherman’s Warf and Lover’s Bridge today.

That’s the weather in Danshui. Sorry but it doesn’t change. 
Thats not true ! Danshui has lots of sunny days (in the summer) . Winter its the coldest in the Taipei area.

I was rather shocked by Fisherman’s Warf. I liked it a lot better when it was a lot greener.

They slapped a very out of place hotel on what used to be a park; put in this semi-shopping mall-strip type thing which is all but empty; then put up this fish market with a restaurant on top that serves not-quite-so-fresh seafood. Modern? 
Looks a lot more like hopeful thinking and forced development. :loco:
There is, however, a nice museum of Tamsui ‘fishy goodies’ though. :roflmao:

I didn’t go in, but from the Mandarin it sure did not seem like a museum about fish per say. But have a look at the pic. You’ll get what I mean.

Oh that’s just weird.
We got to walk around that area for an hour when we were up at the military base next door for reserve training late last year, and it all felt rather dismal, except for the nice hotel. Then again, the weather wasn’t that great and it wasn’t a weekend, and I have to admit that there a lot more people around than there would have been in, say, Bitan on a weekday. I’d hope that further opening up the boat/yacht restrictions would inject a bit of revenue and interest in not just that port but others all around the island.
I think the joy of being there was people watching. There are so many interesting couples so that was amusing. My friend and I did think that the whole setup was a bit cheesy, especially with all the hearts everywhere and the “pre-made date” areas, haha.
I have two quick questions:
-Is there a bus from around the Jiantan stop area on the red line that goes straight to the Neihu area Costco?
-Has anyone ever wanted to buy concert tickets from the 7-11 but the concert you wanted wasn’t on the machine? I wanted to order the tickets online but the site pointed me to buy them from the 7-11 ibon. I went to one and the show wasn’t to be see 
all the clerks at the 7-11 helped buy they couldn’t do anything. Could it have just been that particular 7-11? I don’t have a problem buying the tickets at the door but I don’t want to show up just to find that they’re sold out 
You can try the bus 556 and get off at the Minquan Bridge stop,but it’s about ten minutes’ walk to costco.
