Moving to TW and customs

I live in Shanghai now but will be moving to TW in a few weeks to teach English. I have a number of things that I will be shipping to TW so was googling to find the requirements that customs has but could not find a page that was put up within the past 2 years. Can someone direct me to a link that is more recent?

Also, I have 3 computers - one that is my home theater pc, one that is my work pc and one, an old P4, that I leave on 24/7 to download stuff. Does customs make a distinction between a pc and a pc-tv?

Did you get this site?

eweb.customs.gov.tw/np.asp?ctNode=12920

I found the link, but cannot open it from within China :frowning:

Personal affects will be fine. Better TV here than you ever saw in China. You wont need to download so much stuff here.

Really? I can’t watch CSI anymore. Or Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Or Cake Boss.

Good thing is that the internet is great here compared to China Unicom (still trailing other places…but far better than Unicom) and you can download much quicker. I’m pretty good with the 12mbps Zhonghua Dianxin fiber for NT$359 a month right now. Downloads shows in about 3-4 minutes.

If I were you, I would toss the P4 and pick up a cheap NAS or atom box here you can install a usenet client on (and sickbeard)…lower power consumption and you can get rid of one thing to move. Actually, why doesn’t the HTPC just download stuff…

If the PCs are just laptops, put them in your backpack. It’s pretty clear (or should be anyway) that you aren’t going to sell used computers to the island that makes them.

I’ve had pretty good luck taking things in/out of customs in my life (cash, gold, etc.) by not avoiding quick eye contact with the customs people in the green lane. Avoid them and they think something is up.

I ALWAYS get stuck at American customs, though…my own country is the biggest pain in the ass for me. They always think I’m trying to smuggle in fake DVDs or something (even though usually there is at least one fake rolex somewhere in the bag, I quickly put it in my pocket or on my wrist when that happens). At immigration, last time I got pulled into a room because my passport got flagged…lately my passport’s been giving me issues. Taking longer and longer at immigration. I blame that asshole in Macau 2 years ago that was giving me the 5th degree because I didn’t have an HK stamp and came from HK (even though I came from the airport, he didn’t seem to get that). He did something to my passport. And Mainland started taking my picture whenever I enter now. They didn’t do that before.

Yes really those shows are on TV in Taiwan. Maybe you just have the wrong provider.

CHT MOD, (FOX, Universal, Australia Network, BBC) has many new series on TV … only a few weeks after they show in the US.

Always remember to wai the Buddha statue at the entrance to your workplace every day.

Oh, wait, wrong type of customs.
