I was wondering if anyone would be interested in building a small bmx loop for mtb…jumps , rythm section maybe a see saw and log ride…more along the line of a free ride track…this would be in taipei city i am scouting locations as we speak…i figure like 2 or 3 weekends and then ride …maybe some stretch of the unfrequented part of the path along the river…if anyone has ideas or knows of one…or if you like the idea let me know…also I am a free rider…so iif ur not and want to play in the dirt speak up we can go as tame or crazy with it as people want.

I was shocked to see BMX-type loop with several jumps next to one of the riverside parks. It’s maybe a km north of the Zhoumei bridge (if that’s the name of it. The bridge you cross if you’re going north from Shezi Dao towards Guandu.) I’ve only got a road bike, so I have no idea how nice the track is, but I saw people doing all sorts of jumps on it.

I was riding with Roel at Jung Fu Gong this morning and we were invited to go with a load of Taiwanese guys to a “pumptrack and dirt jump area” near Beitou. Roel knows where it is, he said it was more of a motocross track under an overpass somewhere. I have no idea because I live in Taoyuan but I would be keen to join up with some other guys to make a pumptrack/rhythm section if you tell me the place and promise its legit. Who’s going to rent the bobcat and draw the plans? If you’re scouting for locations, West Taipei would be a lot better than East as far as I’m concerned…
Roel’s going to try to take some photos of the Beitou one this arvo and maybe he’ll post them up so we can have a butchers. I heard they have floodlights there so you can ride at night too! Sounds pretty rude. Alidarbarc, have you got a map for your spot?

I’ve never tried to embed a Google Maps link before, but this MAY be the place you’re talking about near Beitou… look for the green arrow in the link (it opens up a Google satellite image, or at least it does on my computer). Note that the big elevated highway will NOT get you to this destination, unless you plan on taking the bike off a jump far higher than I thought possible. (The image is old and doesn’t show the track: it’s only been there a few months, and I’m probably off by a few hundred meters anyway.)
I can’t give driving directions because I’ve only gone there by bicycle. If you’re taking the riverside cycling paths, this is quite near the Shilin Incinerator. There’s a cycling track there, with jumps and stuff - I have no idea what’s good or bad for this sport, however. Yes, it’s under the highway.
What confuses me about this particular location is the presence of at least a hundred spots for parking and locking up bikes. I wish those would show up somewhere USEFUL in this town. I’ve yet to see a bike locked up there.
Jaame i was thinking of doing it the old fashioned way with shovels and sweat back int the states (n.y) you cant rent a bobcat and start building on publoc land in the woods…we just take shovels and large buckets and go to work i have built about 5 tracks like this and the have been pretty good…im not talking about a race track just some fun dirt to play maybe 50 meters or so depending

I’m in contact with another foreigner called Andrew who rides there “three or four times a week”. He’s part of the teamfreebike.com guys who are apparently dead into street riding. I’ve never actually met him but I’ve only just heard about him and the gang. He’d be a good person for you to hook up with, look for him through the teamfreebike or flowmtbstyle facebook pages.
I’ve been told they are based in Taipei and ride street all the time pretty much so there you go. Have you got a bike here cous?
