Arrive at CKS in a few hours. My well wishers are requested to wear green and keep a respectful distance to distinguish themselves from the rude vile pigs who will be wearing black and in my face.
Ta, all.

Ta, all.
I think I should have put this under Events.
Drinks on the plane eh?
Welcome home!
I saw Ping Ping yesterday, she is fine but grumpy from missing you. And she has grown an extra leg.
A full report with photos on Tibet is expected later today.
Welcome back! You must be tired after all that Everest scaling and yak herding!
Welcome back!
Looking forward to hearing all about Tibet.
Who are you?
Welcome back - looking forward to hear about it.
I can’t look at this thread title without having that damn christmas carol whittling away at the very fibre of my being.
You better be making a list and checking it twice and I want you to know that if you know when I’m sleeping we are going to have a problem. Arg. Welcome back.
Welcome back to Taiwan and its own unique version of civilization, MM. You’ll find that it hasn’t changed much, though the layer of garbage is a little bit deeper.
But still, the trails, the trails are calling, and the streams are just a-begging to be dipped in.
On second thought, my warped sense of humor got a little bit out of hand.
Hello all. Finally got my damn fiber optic connection working at home. fast fast fast, unless you count the two days lost getting it to work.
Anyway, to respond: yes a few drinks on the plane as beer and peanuts were all we had to consume for a 4.5 hour flight from Kathmandu to HK. Not kidding. There was a strike in Kathmandu the day I left and the caterers could not get to the airport. I almost didn’t having to wrok my way past angry Nepalese.
By the time I wrote the above I had been in transit all day and had slept the night at the airport in HK. Not really that bad as I’d slept in far worse places in Tibet.
frost, thank you for playing the rude vile pig part.
As for photos and such, that will have to wait. I have to satisfy the people who paid for this trip first.
Omni, after Tibet and Nepal, Taiwan looks like heaven. So clean, so organized, so modern.
But let’s do get a river tracing trip organized for the coming weekend.
Slept at the airport? What with my place just half an hour away? Silly Billy.

Well, by the time I figured I had to stay at the airport (couldn’t get on the last connecting flight as I had an open ticket) it was past midnight and we all know what an early bird you are.
Actually, I tried to get a hotel but the airport one was filled, and all the hotels I could book at the info counter were full (the guy first tried to tell me all the hotels in HK were full until I gave him a “wtf?” look and he corrected himself saying all the hotels they handle). So, I checked my duffle bag into baggage and headed on the train for Kowloon. Arrived about 12.30am and there was a 100 person lineup waiting for non-existent taxis. I figured by the time I found a place and settled in it would be 2am. I had to be up by 6am to catch my flight. Didn’t make much sense to pay for 4 hours sleep. So back to the airport I went and found a nice stretch of chairs. Slept soundly till 5.30am so it wasn’t that bad. By the time I had washed my face and shaken out the cobwebs the cafes were open and the public computers on.
Like I said, the airport was more comfortable than many guesthouses in Tibet. And no smell of burning yak shit in the morning.

Yeah, and there’s a 7-11 downstairs where a thirty traveler can buy cheap liquid refreshments.
Welcome back.
Are you saying I don’t keep a well-stocked fridge, Almas?
MM, worth considering, for anyone really, is Mui Wo as a transit point in HK. There are a number of cheaper guesthouses by the beach and in addition the Silvermine Beach Hotel. All 30 mins from the airport and the best part of all you completely bypass HK. Oh, and you are within half a beer distance from my place.

How about heading up the Ayu Stream (阿玉溪) that flows into the Tonghou Creek (桶 后溪) at Xiaoyi (孝義) in Wulai?
If that sounds good, I’ll set it up.

Not at all old chap. Just reminding folks that there is a cheap watering hole at the airport.
Cheers from Almas “booze plague of locusts” John
How about a river trace up the ol’ Daxi River?
