Hello to anyone who knows a lot about music artists / music videos in Taiwan,
I went to KTV during this Summer with some friends, and near the end of the time, one friend sang to a song that sounded good. I want to find that artist and their music in a music store - but I don’t know the name! However, I know exactly what the music video looks like.
Maybe this is a strange question, but if there is someone here who knows A LOT about music videos in Taiwan, please let me know - maybe I can describe what the music video looked like and if you know the person, you could tell me at least the name of the artist (if not the name of the song/album too - the name of the artist would be fine), so I can look for that person’s music in a music store.
The video I saw in KTV was probably the same as the real one.
In the video, there are 5 girls dancing, and the girl in the middle who is frontmost is the one singing (and she has long hair which is colored orange-ish). The background of the place they are dancing is all white, and the girls are wearing outfits that are mostly white. Also on the floor they are dancing on is a word that starts with the letter “f” but I couldn’t make out what it said.
The music sounded like r&b music and had a kind of dance feel to it.
Actually so far I have just bought 2 CDs in Taiwan - one of them was Landy’s new CD because she looked kind of like the girl in the video and thought it was this person I am asking about, but when I took the CD home and listened to it, the song wasn’t there so it was probably another person.
(but the Landy CD is still good and am glad I bought it)
You can watch about 200 different 2004 music videos online at http://wwwpan.myweb.hinet.net/MAIN/index_a.htm. You’ll need to click the link at the top that has the letters “MV”. That means music video. There are also a lot of streaming song files if you can figure out how to use the player. You may need to download JAVA first to get the player to work.
Maybe your favorite song is there, but it may be difficult to find your song because you don’t know when it was released. If it’s 5 years old, you’ll have a tough time tracking down the artist.

I was in an internet cafe and they played the song I heard
back in June in KTV I was looking for.
The song was “36 tricks of love” by Jolin. I just remembered what
the video looked like, but didn’t know which album to look for, or how
recent it was. Well, I asked the people working at the internet cafe and they wrote down the name of the artist and song in Chinese - then I went to a music store and showed them, and they showed me the CD. I bought it and it’s good. Of course my Chinese isn’t good enough, I don’t understand most of the lyrics as I am still studying Chinese at university here - I like R&B music, and I was drawn to this song for the beat and the music. And it’s a nice change from so much of the ballads and feelgood happy music I hear most of the time in Taiwan.
There is also another song on the album that sounded good that I had heard before (“Love Love Love”). I’m glad it turned out to be the same artist/album as this one I just got.

I have a question. One of the earlier posts talked about
“girlie pop music” then referred to Jolin. Also, a couple of
times I mentioned this CD in Taiwan, people (mainly guys) act like maybe something is funny but they don’t want to reveal. Is her music
considered as “girl’s music” in Taiwan?
(By the way, I am a guy, which should
make this question and situation self-explanatory.)

Honestly, her music is not just “girls’” music, but kids’ music.
Nu Virgos. It says so on the album cover for Nu Virgos that their song was the original version.
On a related note, I know it’s a long shot, but last night on the radio I heard a Chinese version of “Play That Funky Music” - anyone know who did it or what it’s called?
I had no idea that was this kind of music! This is my first time in Taiwan. I still don’t know about most of Taiwan music.
When I heard that song in KTV, one girl who is a college student (we all are college students) was singing that song. I just thought the music sounded close to some R&B music I listen to from America, but didn’t know this was the kind of music hers’ is. I can imagine now the times I have probably embarassed myself by mentioning it to the few people I have… If I knew it was this kind of music, I probably would not have even bought it…
Thanks for letting me know about this, so I can avoid any further embarassment; I will probably hide the CD and pretend it doesn’t exist.
