So, If anyone know a little bit about pshychology, then you will know that even if your not really listening to a person’s conversation, if your name is mentioned you will hear that. This is because you were listening to the conversation the whole time, but when a keyword pops out, like your name, then that’s when your brain really pays attention to what’s going on.
Anyhow, I think I have a new keyword when people are talking. Sometimes I’m not even close to Taiwanese people that are talking, and then they say “Waiguoren”, and I look around, are they talking to me or where is the Waiguoren? Howcome I can’t seem him?
Hope my post made sense, I’m sleepy!

Hi, Sleepy. Isn’t there also a dwarf that goes by that name? Anyway, that’s a strange way to introduce yourself. “Hi, my name is Sleepy,” will usually do just fine. So, is it Rabidpie Sleepy, or Sleepy Rabidpie?
Droopy.
Drippy.
Drappy,
Don’t forget Oozey!
Go to the Happy Hour and say, “Hey dumbass!”. Everyone will turn around.

I thought it was Duckboy…
OP: It’s called the “Cocktail Party Effect” in psychology, it roughly means that you tend to notice when your name appears in a conversation that you are ignoring.
Haha yup I have the same thing happen to me all the time now, it’s amazing how much the taiwanese people love talking about waiguoren. Of course maybe seeing us in the environment is what strikes up the conversation in the first place.
