Namath's New Book

Dunno if this should be here in Sports or in A&E? Please mod, do what’s right!

Man, this looks like it’ll be a good read… here’s an excerpt:
Coach Bryant once said, "There’s a difference “‘tween bein’ beaten and losin’.” I agree. Now, I’ve been beaten in my life. Sure. But knowing the difference between being beaten and losing is something to be respected.

Later that night – Jim Hudson on crutches after he dislocated his hip in the game, Big Boy Pete Lammons, Curley Johnson and me with my black eye – picked up and went to Vegas for our day off.

The next day the papers reported that Ben Davidson had shattered my cheekbone in the fourth. But it had actually been Lassiter in the third.

“I didn’t take no beating, I got my face swollen biting into a steak at breakfast,” I said. I wouldn’t give any opponent the satisfaction of knowing he hurt me. If you can’t take it, don’t play. It’s a hard game.
He’s “before my time” so I don’t remember much of his playing days except for highlights of him on TV. I’ll always remember though his drunken apperance on Monday Night Football live and telling Suzy Kolber “I want to kiss you!”.

Saw old Joe hobbling onto the practice field on broken knees when he was winding down his career with the L.A. Rams at Cal State Fullerton where they had summer camp. They flew him in on a helicopter, always had a smile on his face and could barely walk. I was in awe of the “Hippie” who crushed the flat tops and Johnny Unitas of my father’s era and brought in the new game.
I carried John Cappuletti’s helmet that month and we talked about Philly and his brother who died who was about my age.
