I was driving up the coast the other day, when I saw a sign for this trail just passed the Nanya rocks (those weird rock formations that look like rusty swirling frosting on cake). Thought it might be interesting. Well, it was. I have rarely seen a trail that is so stunning from the get go. In essence you start the trail looking down a deep valley with the coastal mountains rising up dramatically all around. The pics below we all taken in the first 15 minutes of the trail. The first pic is taken right at the start of the trail.
It seems the trail heads back toward Jiufen and can hook up with a path up to teapot mountain (see pic two). Don’t know how long it will take as I didn’t have much time. But this is the season to do it as the Luwei flowers (those tall grasses that are yellowing at the top) are out and entire sections of the mountains are tanned a light yellow.
The trail is at the 84km mark on the highway. The trail seems to have been an old road before. At least the first fifteen minutes it was wide though pretty grassy. Note that looking back you can see down the coast.

Pics a little out of focus obviously, but it shows Teapot Mountain near Jinguashi in the right background.
