Two days off for the CNY holidays? That’s going to go down like a lead fucking balloon. Nine days off for the whole year. Woo! Taiwan up!
The news yesterday said there would be 9 days for CNY.

As an aside, it always pisses me off when they refer to it as a “nine day” holiday. It’s a five-day holiday to my mind.
13 days off, but two Saturdays are designated as work days. 
Exactly. That’s very annoying. It looks like Feb. 23 and Sep. 14 are both workdays.
There will most likely be a work day to make up for the long weekend over Tomb Sweeping Day(?). Either 3/30 or 4/13. I love the four day weekends. They’ve got to be a bit of a boost to the economy as well. Seems like everyone is on the move. The government should really schedule more of these.
I am in US. I just got my list, and there are only 8 for 2013.

Yeah, but the US has a reasonable paid leave policy. Taiwan, 1st year in your job: 0 days paid personal leave. UK: 20 days. France, probably ten weeks or something, those damned socialists.

That’s too bad. I enjoy the Saturday make up days, because the kids are in regular school and I can actually have a weekend. Next year’s calendar looks a hell of a lot better that 2012.

But yeah, “nine-day holiday” I’m sure comes from the usage of 假日, which is often translated as “holiday”. But since the term includes weekends, it really means “day off”.
yeah 13 days isnt a lot if you arent getting paid annual leave (stuff that is mandatory in the UK) I think last year at my old job i had 39 paid days off not counting public/national holidays (around 8 of those).

With regard to the link to the national holidays. Is there a link in english? I guess i could use google chrome to translate it.
America aint too good on the holiday front. Here your first year you get zero days off. After your first year you get five working days off (which means you get a week) and then after your second year you get ten working days off. It varies from company to company. But at our company I now get three weeks off because im in my 4th year there. But it ends there. 3 week is max.
As for pay, its usually paid at your normal rate. Of course theres no overtime as you are not there.
Companies pay differently depending on whether you are commission based on not.
Or they pay a flat rate per week.
We sure do not get the 8 weeks off that a real vacation is in the USA, unless you are a teacher.
