Need a new passport soon...what happens with JFRV?

My passport will be expiring shortly and, thanks to the brilliance of the Canadian goverment, one can’t simply renew a passport. Instead, I have to apply for a whole new one. My question is this: what happens with regards to my JFRV? Will I have to apply for a new one or can my current one transfer over to the new passport?

You need to go to immigration and they will just put a new re-entry sticker in your new passport, change the passport number on your current ARC and that’s it … just keep your old passport because on exiting you have to show it and they’ll rip out the yellow paper … on returning to Taiwan just use the new passport.

I have to do this every 5 years because my country is one if the few that gives passport with only 5 years validity.

My JFRV is 2 passports ago, you don’t need to do anything, it lasts forever. Not sure if I needed to update my ARC though, I don’t remember doing that.

Oh yes, you better go there and have the passport # changed on your ARC … that is for the old, green ARC’s … I guess the new have the PP number on the chip …
