Still trying to find my way around. I’ve recently moved to the Muzha area. I need to buy stuff for my apartment, wardrobe, large dresser, chairs etc, not the cheaply made IKEA-type stuff, but not expensive either. I hear folks mentioning furniture markets, can anyone give me directions on how to get to one via MRT? I’m on the brown line.
There are some furniture shops along Nanchang Road Section 2 in Guting: Jump on the Muzha line, transfer at Zhongxiao Fuxing onto the Blue Line towards Taipei Main Station, then transfer at Taipei Main Station to the Green or Yellow Line (direction to Xindian or Nanshijiao respectively).
At Guting station walk out of Exit 8 towards Nanchang Park. At the junction (Heping and Nanchang) turn North / right, the shops are along that stretch until you reach Fuzhou Rd.
Alternatively get off at Technology Building station and take the 235 bus heading West - it stops at Nanchang Park (bus #15, #18 and Heping Main Line also bring you to Guting), saves you the two transfers on the MRT.
Wenchang Street: Exit at Daan Station (on the Brown Line) and walk East on Xinyi Rd. until you cross Dunhua South Rd.; Wenchang Street starts in the South-East corner of that junction.
For a real adventure, browse the used furniture district first for comparison…there’s some good stuff and some astonishingly awful stuff.
It’s at Xiamen St., which is off of Hoping W. Road about two intersections past the big intersection of Hoping Rd and Roosevelt Rd. The nearest MRT would be Guting. Bonus: it’s not too far from Nanchang Road (which will be the first intersection on the right if you’re walking down Hoping W Road towards Xiamen St.) so you can look at either used or new furniture in the same trip.
Hey what that guy is looking for is the furniture district. It is just south of Hsin Yi Rd between Kuang Fu and Da An rd. I think it begins even before Kaung Fu, like just West of Keelung Rd. That is the real furniture street. Anyone remember than name of that street? The city put down cobble stones on the street and have a lot lanterns ect. to mark off the area. The domestic furniture manufacturers have shops there. They are cheap and you can bargain some and they can also custom make stuff for you for cheap. Kind of like, can you make this with shorter legs, or can you change the marble used for this to a different colored one?
There are some big furniture stores (kind of all-in-one places) in Neihu, just after the river, close to Costco and RT Mart, but I don’t know what bus will go there. Getting off the MRT at Nanjing Fuxing and taking a cab from there might be an option instead.
There’s also a lot of furniture stores clustered along Minsheng West Road near Dihua Street (where you go to stock up on candies and snacks for new year’s. From Shuanglien MRT station you can take 518 westbound and get off just after it makes a left hand turn.
For the ones near Costco in Neihu, go to the Zhongshan Middle School MRT on the brown line, go up to the bus stop on Minquan and Fuxing east bound and you can take 617, or any of the ‘red’ lines. Get off just after going over the big bridge.
