Need help with excel and word

I have some lists of words and their definitions that were done by a Chinese teacher at my school. The definitions were just taken from an online dictionary, and some were even “google-translated”. The result is that some are incomprehensible and others create definitions that are a lot harder to remember than they should be.

What I have to do is redefine the words for a smart bunch of grade 2 kids, but the problem is that after I create the list of words and definitions, I have to create another list with identical words, but the opposing list of definitions in scrambled order. I will do it in either Word or Excel, but would really love it if there were a function whereby I could select a group of cells and execute a function that would scramble their vertical order. Know thee of such a thing?

If you organize the definition cells alphabetically or in reverse, it should be pretty random.

In Excel, make a column with the following in each cell:

=RAND()

That will insert a random number. Then sort your table by that column.

You know, it almost sounds like a cheap workaround but it worked. So did the other way…

The RAND() worked better for me. I created 2 rows in Excel, both going down to 20, which is about what I needed. I put the RAND() next to each cell. Then I copy pasted the definition column from Word into the first column in Excel. I then arranged them based on number size, and it asked me if I would like to bind each numbered cell to the one on the left. I confirmed, hit Go and it worked. Now I just save the basic Excel file as a template and cut and paste in and out as I require.

I gotta admit though that a simple scramble function on word would be nice.
