Need some advise on visa renewal

Hey,
I am going to Thailand for a bit of a vacation and also to renew my Taiwan visitor visa. I have been trying to figure out exactly what I need to bring in order to renew my visitor visa. I am actually one of those here just to learn Chinese (not to make money), but am unfortunately attending a private language school that is not on the “official list” of recognized state-run schools. Does anyone know whether I have to have a plane ticket out of Taiwan in the next few months in order to get my visa renewed. I have talked to the Taiwan embassy in Bangkok, but am not convinced the girl understood enough English to make me feel secure about what I need. I am bringing a bank statement faxed from my bank in the States. If anyone has any info it would be much appreciated.

I would just buy a ticket to be on the safe side. Sometimes they will ask for it and other times not. Just cancel the ticket when you get back to Taiwan. Buy cancellation insurance.

um well i have never been asked for a ticket (over 10 visa runs now in 3 years). plus if you are asked it would more likely be at the airport coming in. so i never bother carrying one any more. for piece of mind tho’ you can buy an open ticket from china air in taipei and then cash it in when you get back (you lose NT$300).
