New home sweet home

I finally made it back to Canada with my two bikes and two dogs and you should have seen them in their new space. They have run around like crazy animals for the last few hours  , caught a squirrel  and dug holes in the garden :noway: . I guess the next little while will be spent training them on what they can and can’t do in the yard. For those of you thinking about bringing their animals home it is well worth all the fuss of lugging them through airports and in vehicles. Thanks for all the advise people gave me on this topic. I don’t know if I will be able to keep both dogs now, but at the very least I can make sure that they end up in a loving home with lots of space where they will be spoiled rotten. Oh ya, the Canadian air seems to be doing wonders for their skin problems.

Glad to hear it. I have a feeling that when I bring my kids back, it would have the same effect on them. And after the death of my last dog, I promised myself that I would bring one Taiwanese pooch back to the good life. It should have been meant for Oscar, but seeing as he’s 6 ft under a cairn on a plateau in Puli, I will have to make up for it.

Makes me feel good to hear that a couple of ROC dogs can get some of the good life, running around and acting like dogs ARE supposed to do, instead of dodging traffic, eating refuse, and being plagued by numerous parasites and skin afflictions.

hats off to ye for making the effort. :bravo:

Great to hear, woudsprite!

Fantastic that you have given both these dogs the chance of a wonderful life in Canada, and that others can see just how rewarding the result of all that hassle can be.

Got any pics?

Thanks so much for the update. Good luck to all of you over there.

okay, my dogs are enjoying the running around a lot, I am a little worried about the cats we have though…They already ate a squirrel. I am trying to introduce them to the cats but this morning they chased one cat under our deck and were barking at, I think they are more curiouse than anything, but I am worried. If they eat one of the cats they have to go. They are still dealing with the skin parasites, although Stimbys appears to be getting better. Maybe Xiao Tchoe is just going to have nasty skin forever. I am hoping the vets here will do a better job of getting them all fixed up. I will send pictures later as I have to get more batteries for my camera and go haul my cat out from under the deck.

Hi Woudsprite,

I’m glad you made it back safely. I’ve always wanted to meet you, you sound like such an interesting person.

Good luck with everything back home. Your animals are in capable hands, yours and the vet’s.

Thank you for saving a few lives.

Cheers,

Are the cats allowed indoors? Are the dogs? If so, you could start some ā€œsupervisedā€ encounters inside to allow them to get used to each other before letting them outside together.

unfortunatly I don’t think I can keep my babies. I brought them to Canada so that they could have a good life that they wouldn’t have found in Taiwan. Once I get Stimbys skin infection all cleared up I will start trying to find a home for them with someone who either has kids that will play with the dogs or at least a person who loves dogs and has a big yard for them to play in. I will be going back to University and working at the same time and while I am sure that I might be able to keep them, it wouldn’t be fair to them. They need a home where they will get a lot of attention and love and have someone that has time to take them for walks and play with them. I will not give them up until I find the perfect home for them, but I don’t think that I will be the ideal mom for them, they need and deserve more. I will also have to find someone that will allow visiting rights and will sign a contract with me stating that if there are any problems that they will notify me imedietly and not simply dump the dogs. If any of you know anyone in the BC Alberta area of Canada who might like two wonderful slightly ugly dogs please let me know.

Here’s a pdf about how to find a home for your dogs. It also has a sample adoption contract that you can copy or adapt accordingly.

Good luck with this, and thanks for giving these dogs as much as you have.

thanks for that site, it is a great one. This is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I love em both, but I think they will be better off in the long run with someone who can provide them with more attention. Especially Stimby, he chews when he is bored. In taiwan he ate my couch, the stairs in my apartment and all sorts of other things. Here he has a large number of sticks, trees, toys and other things to chew on. Hope he finds a family that likes to play fetch. Any recommendations finding a new home for a dog who has attachment issues. I might keep Xiao Tchoe because she is really attached and I know she can’t really go cold turkey.
