New Law: You Can Have 2 Work Permits (ARCs)?

A few people have told me about some new law allowing ESL teachers to have 2 work permits with 2 different employers. So you can legally have 2 jobs, and if one school fires you and cancels your ARC, you’d be allowed to stay in Taiwan with the other ARC.

Is this for real? If so, are any of you taking advantage of this? What has been your experience?

I found the answer from (gasp!) tealit.com:

tealit.com/arc_transfers_and … etters.htm

But would still like to hear from somebody who followed this route. I’m wondering if there’s a deadline to cancel that first ARC once you get a second one. If not, it sure seems like a great way to ensure your security as an English teacher, not held in check by one school alone.

So can you have 2 jobs and 2 ARC cards now,or must you quit your first job if you get the second ARC.

My understanding, based on a reading of those documents at TeaLit, is that you can have multiple work permits from different employers, but that you retain your current ARC. Once you obtain the second work permit, you take your ARC down to the FAP and they amend it to include the second permit. After that, if your first work permit is cancelled, your ARC continues to be valid, based on the second. You neither have 2 ARCs, nor do you need to cancel or reapply for a new one.

However, I too would like to see confirmation of this from another source.
