New NSX Concept Shown at Detroit Auto Show

Sweet. If they can get a decent power to weight ratio out of an atmo v6 for the rear and two electric motors on the front, I want one.

Well, they did a good job keeping the spirit of hideousness of the original!

Blasphemy

I Like it… they still going NA or decided to start using forced induction?

Looks a bit like a mix between a lambo and an audi r8…

Isn’t the Audi R8 already a mix between a lambo and the Audi R8?

Heres some mix-up between a lambo and the Italian policing budget.

Yeah, Audi R8 pretty much is a very cheap Lambo… same chassis if i am not mistaken.

Hehe, i think the R8’s Audi Lambo mix turned out a bit better than the police Lambo SUV mix… hehehe

They said 2015 for the release and didn’t say much about the powerplant except that it is a normally aspirated V6 with a KERS-like electric motor for torque boost, mated to a dual clutch transmission driving the rear wheels. There are two electric motors in the front that can torque vector the car. No word on displacement or output.

The V6 has an advantage in that it can be mounted transversely, lowering the polar moment of inertia of the car, which is one reason why the original NSX was so good in the handling department.

While this version of the car may not have been endorsed by Senna himself, Honda always has a knack for doing it just right when it comes to sports cars, so I’m looking forward to this. If they can keep the weight down and give it enough power, I want one in Honda Type-R White.

“Enough power” would be about ~400-450. They can’t do less than that given what else is available for what this will sell for. Specifically, Nissan GT-R which is now sporting 540 ponies out of the box.

When my scooter grows up, i want it to be a Nissan GT-R…

Knowing hondas way, its bound to be a very high revving car… should be awesome.

But then again, the price will probably be extremely high too.

When Honda came out with the NSX, Jaguar had just come out with its XJ220. Both have aluminum bodies and a v6 but the Jag was close to a million dollars while the Honda came out at bout 65,000. But strangely enough the Honda never really sold in great numbers. Less then 1000 a year if i recall. And yet it was almost as good as the million dollar Jag.

I like this new one, it looks really nice.

Still wont be able to afford it but its nice to gawk. Funny how even normal cars have so much horsepower these days. A 2012 Audi A6 has 310 horsepower. Same as the NSX then !!

I think the NSX of today will have to develop north of 500HP to be a contender , at least on paper, with todays supercars. The R8 v10 has 525hp. And it has the chassis , engine and tranny of the Lambo . Which really is its sister car (Audi owns lambo ).

My bud was lucky to pick up a high mile (beat up) NSX for 17,000 usd bout 8 years ago. STill a good deal tho . FOr a car thats still got lots of life left.

The old NSX is a legend, it looks Japanese, i must say this new one has lost the Import look…

Guess i would have to win the lotto to afford any of the above mentioned cars… hehe…

There were 2 versions of the R8 werent there? the first one had the audi rs4 engine (V8), the V10 was the lambo engine, or am i wrong?

yes v8 was audi 420hp (same one used on the RS4) and the v10 is a lambo engine. Although not identical to the one used in the gallardo. Putting out 525hp.

The GT-R is the elephant in the room for all sports car manufacturers now because it set a totally new benchmark for sub 100k cars. In all truth, the Corvette C6 Z06 did this first, but the video game generation prefers Skylines and sushi over Corvettes and apple pies.

I think Tommy is right that this new NSX needs to crank out 500hp to really compete sales wise with the $90k GT-R, but it can still win over die hard drivers by being lighter and handling better.

Remember the mid 90’s battle of Japanese “halo-cars” Supra MKIV, Skyline R33, RX7 FD3S, 3000GT, NSX. The only reason the NSX could compete power-rating wise with its contemporaries was because of the 280hp gentlemen’s agreement that the Japanese manufacturers held to. When this lifted, the GT-R happens and everything changes.

Now, instead of modified Supras and Skylines going up against Porsche 911 Turbos, we have STOCK GT-Rs going up against anything at any price.

The new NSX will probably never compete with the GT-R for power. But if it feels great to drive as a driver’s car, then it will definitely have a following like the original. If it’s able to hold a stick at the track, particularly if it is competitive at the Nurburging, then that’s what will matter to the people who will choose this car over the other ~100k level cars out there.

Hype machine is moving. This went viral yesterday (1 day, 1.5M views and ticking). If Honda limits production at all, I have a feeling these are going to go for hefty tag over retail at least for the first year or so…

Anyone interested in the Toyota FT-86 and its Subaru twin, the BRZ. Set to be under $27,000 when released in the US, but when it reaches Taiwan (that’s if it comes here), be prepared to fork out 1,500,000 NT! This is so BS. :fume:

Is it possible for the local car makers to make something that is not an SUV, van, or bland econo-boxes. Talk about a total lack of imagination. Sell the locals a locally designed sport coupe using yesteryear’s off the shelf japanese parts.
Better yet, how about the local version of the Japanese K cars. Mazda’s AZ1, Suzuki Cappuccino, Honda Beat.

Read somewhere that this car is going to be entirely built in the States? A Japanese Supercar that is made in the USA?

Neither of those are supercars. They are replacement RSX , Celica types. Could be nice tho.

Those two cars aren’t trying to be, which is great. I feel those cars will probably have the worst insurance rates ever once all the dorifto kids get a hold of them and start wrecking them left and right.

In other news, looks like Tony Stark will be driving a convertible NSX in the Avengers. Who wouldn’t want the same car as Mr. Tony “genius billionaire playboy philanthropist… yes, I am Ironman” Stark?
