New Pizza on the Block
Really? I liked that shabu shabu place. It’s moving to further along the street. They balked at the 150k per month rent, apparently. Can’t say I blame them.
That bustling little street is fucked, by the way. Cops have moved all the vendors off the street, so they can only trade if they have a shopfront. Thank god Athula can move inside, so he’ll still be there.
Stupid fuckers. Kill off any local colour to “make the street safer” but continue to allow the boy racers to scream along there in their ricers on their way for a swift one off the wrist from their girlfriend in the carpark.
Give it a week or two, things should go back to normal.

I went. Very good, but I just have one question which came up after looking at the drinky things in the back of the menu.

What, pray tell, is a Heineken Smoothy?

I know this is a pizza plaze, but how would they accept that you stay for a beer or ten after the pizza is finished, or would they prefer that you leave to make place for new pizza-customers?

Ave anyone tried to hang around for some time after the meal is finished?

They’re quite cool about you lingering for more brews after the meal. Quite laid back. I actually like it better than Alleycats, truth be told. I’ve been there three times, and the pizza (veg) has been very good twice, mediocre once. The beers are good all the time (although sometimes they don’t top it off), and I’m not even particularly fond of Stella.

They have this weird version of a happy hour: buy two get one free. Of course this means I leave the place having had three beers and all is right with the world! :rainbow:
I went. Very good, but I just have one question which came up after looking at the drinky things in the back of the menu.

Anyway, it turns out that a Heineken Smoothy is basically a lager and lime with some crushed ice in. Quite refreshing actually, though not very impressive to look at (and the provided spoon seemed entirely superfluous).

Me’n’Joe got there at about 1:30pm. Judging from my posting record I got home at around midnight and the receipt in my wallet indicates I only ate one pizza. I therefore deduce that it must be OK to stay there after finishing your meal.

Noooo! That’s just wrong! WRONG!

No no! He’s right. I seen it with my own eyes. I remember that bit. The sun was still shining.

Morally wrong!

Maybe, but they seemed to have plenty of limes so there was no harm in wasting a few on Joe’s beer. My rum and cokes were perfect, with big wedges of lime in, so it doesn’t really matter.

I was there one evening last week and there were a couple of chaps playing guitar and some kind of drum thingy. Don’t know what language they were singing in but it was an amazingly pleasant atmosphere. The piped music varies from great jazz to naff Taiwanese love songs, but they’re very accomodating about changing it if you ask.

They’re also dog-friendly, by the way.

Noooo! That’s just wrong! WRONG!
The spoon or the drink? What Loretta did with the spoon was morally wrong, but the drink itself was fine. I think they should crush the ice a bit finer, though.

If it required the application of ice to your person, then I really don’t wish to know. Sodom and, knowing Loretta, no doubt Gomorrah at the end of the green line.

Anyway, the spoon stuff was a strictly solo performance.

Oh no, she wasn’t demonstrating to the ladies present how to…? That’s always so embarrassing. I know she fancies herself as both an educator and a pioneer in her field, but there are limits. I hope she covered the dog’s eyes.

I went there this evening and was disappointed.

I thought the pizza (their signature pizza which costs $280) was a little tasteless. I thought it lacked enough tomato sauce base and toppings - I had to search for some of the things that I thought were meant to be on it. Basically, it looked at tasted pretty much like a big round cheese on toast.

Sure, the taste thing is down to personal opinion, but I really didn’t think it was anything to write home about.

Along with my pizza, I paid an extra $100 to get the ‘meal deal’ which is comprised of ‘pizza bread’, drink, soup, salad and desert. A great sounding deal you might think, until you discover:

Pizza bread – a few triangles of cold and tasteless cardboard.

Soup – the lowest point of the evening. A small bowl (thankfully) of sweetcorn and bacon/ham soup. It was watery and had globules of oil floating on the top. It tasted pretty bad and was completely and utterly unappetizing.

Salad – not chilled and completely smothered in a fairly average orange dressing (which was also not refrigerated). All I could see and taste was the dressing.

Drink – I chose iced coffee. It was packed with sugar and just one sip made me feel like I had eaten a sugar cube. Really, it was VERY VERY sweet. Thankfully, they changed it immediately.

Desert – some milky jelly thing. Quite nice actually.

HOWEVER – The service was excellent and the peaceful view and setting made up for the food. I’d go back to enjoy the ambience, but I’d be trying other things from the menu.

BTW – can anyone recommend the restaurant that is perched quite literally at the ‘other end’ of the footbridge (the quieter side of the river) – I think it’s called Rosemary something. I had a look at the menu and it looks pretty nice (although not cheap). Anyone eaten in there?

Crappy cheese.
