It’s really hard to tell the difference between the two. Is it possible to change these icons to make it more obvious?

Easy to see which one is which when placed side by side, but when in a list of many plus with mouse over highlight, it makes it very difficult to see which one has new posts.
I see what you mean. Maybe we could invert the colors of the icon for threads with new posts instead of just changing the borders
