New quakes strike tsunami zone

From Ananova

A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck near the site of last week’s tsunami-inducing quake off Indonesia’s coast, the Hong Kong Observatory said.

The tremor was centred in waters 40 miles west of Banda Aceh, the capital of the Indonesian province devastated by a 9.0-magnitude quake and resulting tsunami on December 26, the observatory said.

A 5.6-magnitude quake hit the same area, the observatory said.

It wasn’t immediately clear if there were any casualties from the two latest quakes.

Several tremors and aftershocks have been reported since the December 26 quake.

Several is a huge understatement, there were something like 26 or 27 on the day of the quake alone, none smaller than a 5.2 i think, most int eh late 5 and 6, some even in the 7’s
