No nicer cleaner simpler guesthouses in the neighbourhood? I’ve heard Hengchun has some now.
That’s been one of the biggest improvements I’ve seen with domestic travel in Taiwan over the years: better accommodation options outside of not-very-clean and not-especially-cheap and not-at-all-stylish hotels.
I mean you have to buy a ticket to stand on the beach in Kenting. No swimming unless you’re staying at a beach front bnb or have they changed that rule?
Nope, not in a good way. Only good thing is they restrict development outside the town due to the national park. The park at the back of the town is quite magical.
The tourist ‘product’ there is still just walking up and down main street. It’s pathetic honestly.
Sounds like Jiufen hasn’t changed since I last went there in 2013. The old street was so crowded that at one point I stopped walking but the crowd just kept pushing me and my feet went off the ground and I was floated along.
Only other time that happened here was in Luodong night market lol
Also I keep trying to find that hot spring bath house in Jiufen. You know, the one in that movie. But I can’t find it anywhere. All I can find are novelty condom shops.
this and the 草悟道/台中市民廣場 area are pretty insanely busy at times. Otherwise, I can tell that the area where the West District meets the Central has generally improved quite a lot; it’s still definitely a bit messy and run down, but there’s quite a lot of traffic going through there. It’s honestly one of the more interesting parts of the city, lots of the remains of Japanese buildings down there.
l would not put my name under that article if l had summarized/translated what some random local real estate influencer had posted on Facebook. Have some pride, man, whoever you are Taiwan News writer.
