Newbies first impressions

No matter what you you say in an already open Thread or if you start a new Thread there is always some bugger … sorry member trying to knock you down…WHY?

Constructive Criticism is always welcome but what some members do will really put guests off from joining and members posting.

Please consider the effects of what you post,

Must…Not…Troll…Oh who am I kidding!

We don’t care and you’re not a unique beautiful snowflake. HTFU

Now get down on your knees and thank Jesus that Sandman doesn’t post. Newbies hated him above all others.

Welcome to Forumosa btw, we’re a nice bunch especially at the happy hours.

There are assholes intermingled with awesome people everywhere. Dunno if the assholes are more vocal or its just that their words stand out. F.com is the same.

25 posts and the OP is still around… not a newbie. Flob is a bit corrosive because the 'wan is a bit corrosive… the beautiful architecture, the well-planned cities with such logical land-use zoning, the respect for traffic laws, and yet, there are moments… like flob.

Bear in mind “don’t be a pussy and let the dicks f*ck you around” Speak your mind, be fair, be cool , be wise… be around !

They are just trying to toughen you up so you can survive here. One day you’ll thank them. When I arrived I was pink and tender like a delicate cherry blossom. Thanks to the likes of Snadman, I now have a hide as thick as a rhinoceros and callouses on my bum.

If you think you got it hard, try being Tommy for a day. For 10 years I’ve watched him being knocked down, kicked in the guts and sometimes banned, but he comes back day after day for another round. :bravo:

consider the source.

Plus many of the posters reply while under the influence of alcohol, which in turn aggravates the more charming aspects of their personality, being characterized as old farts -really old ones, most of the lot. In real life, sober, they are lovely, I assure you, and will give an arm and a leg to help you. Late at night, after a day of working in this mad, Alice’s other side of the mirror mini cosmos we like to call Taiwan, and half a bottle in, that is another story. Talk about the school of hard knocks!

What?? this forum is TAME
Ppl here are so friendly and helpful - i’ve been helped out on so many occasions. As a newbie, esp.

Problem is that a lot of newbies do not search before posting, write [strike]like shite[/strike] poorly (the OP here has not even noticed the to yous in 'is/'er first sentence - not checking before posting a complaint!) and expect everyone to be so nice to them! They don’t get the bump thing either.

I totally agree with you. There are a lot of dickheads on Forumosa who enjoy pissing on other people and their POV’s. This is why a lot of people don’t bother with Forumosa any more - or do so less and less - except sporadically or to find something out for practical purposes.

I have to differ - but i guess it depends on which forums you frequent and on what you post.
i’ve been on this forum for 4 years - it’s always been tame - ppl are helpful and if not they reserve their spite for their usual foes.

compared to other counties - most ppl don’t visit this (the main forum) much at all. Most ppl just get on with their own lives in almost complete ignorance of the background/solutions existing to the problems they experience. other come here for info. that’s all good. it’s always been like that.

Strange the different viewpoints, I guess. From what I’ve heard OFFLINE (although what do EYE know about this site, after all!), the vast majority of ex-posters have but ONE complaint: The Modding. It IS that simple. And TRUST me! I know FAR, FAR, FAR more ex-flobbers and FAR FAR more extant ones than you could ever HOPE to know. But whatever. I have a wealth of knowledge and experience to share, should I be so inclined. But I’m not. Because of the mods. Or at least because of the way they’re being directed. Simple as that.

With all mustered respect Mr. Man, (or may I call you Sand?), would you be kind enough to PM me with some examples of how you feel mods are being misled. You do indeed represent a strong voice and, have of late, been thoroughly miffed at the transitional direction. That goes for the rest of you as well. I am hereby opening a new department at adflob central. A complaint department. Available via PM, day or night.

Now let me explain about The Chinese Wall. I work for adflob, which is the business arm of forumosa.com and any other tba ventures. I am not a mod. Nor is Gus. Like SuperPac non-coordination, the moderators decide what is acceptable in their respective forums. We do not intervene. Their decision is final. But I will listen to your side of things and share my opinion with them, and rest assured, I have their attentive ear: but backstage via PM and Mods Forum only. I think we can all agree that beginning a complaint should at least be given a chance to be dealt with privately. I hope this isn’'t too much to ask.

If at some point both parties feel the resultant dialogue merit coming forth onto main boards, then we can also look at that possibility. This is your community and as much as is prudently possible, we (Gus and I) want to have decisions be transparent.

About your Mods: They debate the minutiae of every issue backstage and are currently working out an overall philosophy to bring about cohesive style. They are not idle.

Changes are happening and you flobsters are being heard.

With that, I declare my PM box open.

What is the point of a feedback forum if we are directed to take our feedback to pms? Sorry but I want my feedback for the most part out in the open so that others can see it and weigh in. My thread on Tigerman posting in red was a good example of the success of the open approach. Many people wrote, some complaining that TM’s posting style bothered them, some that it did not, and we finally had TM himself explain why he did this. His explanation made it clear he was not posting in colors and bold letters to annoy people but to help him make his points clearer and overcome his own dyslexia.

Now everyone is aware of the issue, and for me at least, and I suspect most everyone else, the matter is closed. When I see TM’s colored posts they don’t bother me in the slightest and I am actually curious now to see how they accentuate certain points he is trying to make.

I am certain this satisfying conclusion would have happened with pms.

And please don’t ask me to continue this conversation by pm.

Hypothetically speaking, if you had PM’d him about it and he, in return gave you the litany of examples detailing his battle with dyslexia privately, then you need not have exposed him publicly over something beyond his control, something he has cleverly devised systems, such as color coding, to aide in conquering this debilitation.

I am not insisting you take it up with me privately, you are free to publicly feedback til dawn and beyond. I am only asking that you try my way first. Then, if still not satisfied, take it out front.

Sorry but mods can simply ignore feedback or respond in any way they like especially when there is a long history of conflict between them and the poster complaining. There are times when pms are appropriate and there are times when feedback should be made public. I’ll thank you for recognizing that I and others know how to make the distinction. Your way is simply convenient for you in your attempt to control the narrative around feedback. I’ve been around this site long enough to know that it’s not terribly effective in the majority of cases.

This is a forum and I trust in the collective wisdom of us all. I learn and change from the feedback that other posters make. Usually all I get from a pm is a feeling that I have wasted my time, if not a slow burn at being patronized or ignored.

LIke international diplomacy much can be achieved “under the radar” so to speak. It is a good apparatus and I do appreciate that it exists.

Tensions can be alleviated before it explodes , egos smooth and massaged where needed if and when , etc.

Many wars need not be fought if the leaders of the conflict were able to resolve their differences privately. There is a use for such a venue.

And there is a use for bringing things out in the open. I’m not arguing for one or the other. In fact this thread is a good example of the open approach. Lots of different views being presented which gives us all more options in the end.

I agree with you on a lot of that but don’t want to get into histories. Best left to itself and look at today as a new day. I recognize the collective voice as the greatest tool we have. But I don’t believe I am attempting to control anything. I am opening another conduit to flobsters, should they feel they need it. I would hope I never receive a single PM. Purest of intentions MM. I promise.

But the way folks can frenzy attack here leads me to think that an official representative of forumosa that is not a mod might be something some folks care to avail themselves of. If it’s not for you, scroll on by and continue as befits your style.

This is just another option. Ok?
