I want to subscribe to a newsgroup listing, but my adsl provider hookup guy, who spoke no English, looked at me like I had three heads when I asked him about a newsgroup address for my outlook express. Anyone here have an address that works here in Taiwan. Any help would be appreciated.

I am on So-net as well. No newsgroups. you will have to find a public one.

There’s always alt.net, newsguy.com, or one of the other commercial newsgroup providers.

Alt.net is run by a guy I know, so I used it for a long time – no idea what his retention is like now, though, as it goes in cycles (he buys new drives and it’s good for a few months, then volume increases to the point that it’s too low to be useful, then he buys new drives…).

hi I have hinet for adsl…do they have newsgroup? I used to have verizon and they have good newsgroup but I am wondering if hinet even have newsgroup…thanks

If you’re looking for newsgroups like the ones in the US, alt.binaries.etc … then no you’re outta luck.

Nope, I have exactly the same setup, and they do have a newsgroups server - it’s iffy, and sometimes times out, but it’s actually gotten better recently. The server name you want is:

news.hinet.net

Just go to google.com, they’ve probably all the newsgroups you need and ever want … i think.

ok question about newsgroup downloading, I got hinet and I use newshosting.com server, which is in the states, at night I get good download speed like 1000kb/s but when people get off work or students get off school, like around 6pm to 1am it gets real slow like 50kb/s to 100kb/s!!! I just switched from regular line 12mb/1mb to fiberoptic 10mb/2mb and I still got the same problem!!! I thought fiberoptic is a line by itself and not affected by how many people are online in your neighborhood?? I think this is a problem from hinet and not newhosting?? this is very frustrating!!! help please, anyone got similar problem?
