NHI card online use

No need to use NHI card, u can submit tax returns with arc and passport numbers online via the tax bureau website

My card reader from Amazon worked. It’s a mini USB-C card reader that works well with Mac, and you can compact it to a small form factor the size of a small thumb drive. It’s much better than the USB-A card readers you find at Taiwan 7-11, which are quite bulky and you have to also carry a separate USB-C to USB-A adapter to have it work with your mac.

I needed to use it to manage my Taiwan business virtually via a 工商憑證 card as well.

It is quite sketchy to have to run HiPKILocalSignServer on my Mac though, which is running some zsh script in terminal. I will probably delete it every time after use or find a dedicated machine just for using it. I tried to run it in a sandboxed environment in Parallels (Win 11) but it gave some cryptic error with unreadable characters.

that’s some real shite, very clunky to set up the first time and not that stable.

I imagine being a nightmare on Mac, it was already a shitshow on windows

Yeah, I’ve yet to figure out why every Taiwanese developer working on websites for banks etc. thinks it’s necessary to include at least one clunky, awkward-to-find-and-install, always-running piece of software for each site. I collected a new one for the MyData website a couple of weeks back, and it always takes me a while to remember to go and deactivate it from running at startup.
