NIA now responsible of arc/visas in Taichung

Just went down to the FAP in Taichung only to discover that National Immigration Agency has now taken over responsibility for arc/visa issues. I went over to the immigration office with a few question which the lady seemed unsure about. She said I could not have my arc amended to another school if I am no longer working there(arc still valid) and that I have to have the arc cancelled, take the new work permit to HK and come back with a new visa. And no extensions while work permit is in transit.

I’m not sure if immigration has their own set of rules or if she is just unaware of arc procedures.

Does anyone have any more info on this or have delt with this office yet?

I went over there for an ARC address change (my address, that is) and everything seemed pretty much the same as it used to be at MOFA. Same paperwork and stuff.

The interpretation she gave you of the ARC rules does sound pretty odd, though …

Problem is the National Immigration Agency was the National Artificial Insemination Agency until last Thursday and they are still learning the ropes. If they start producing glassware run like hell.
