Does anyone know where I can download some nice chinese fonts for windows? I’m trying to make a website

People viewing your web site will only be able to see it with the fonts they have installed on their own computers. If you define a rare font that is not on the viewer’s computer, his or her computer will substitute another font.

Check Luc Devroye’s Chinese Fonts page. He has lots of links to Chinese fonts, some free, some not. The page is getting a little out of date, but it’s free, so you can’t really complain.

As an alternative, you could buy some Chinese fonts at Guanghua or wherever. They’re quite cheap.

Alright, so I’ve found a font I’d like to download. I click on the link to download. I get a page full of code/jargon. Nothing else happens.

What do I do next?

The nice true type Chinese font that I’ve finally managed to download only seems to work in MS Word. How can I get it to work in non-MS programs? Or, how can I make a jpeg or gif of it from Word? Is that even possible?

I think that actually goes beyond CSS. With CSS you can designate alternate fonts, but it still depends on what’s available on the client side. You can specify the font you want to appear with CSS, but to get the font to the client machine without them installing them you’d need to use dynamic fonts, and I’m not sure if there are any good dynamic ones for Chinese.

If you want to have dynamic fonts you can do a quick search on how to do it. I suggest the tutorial at htmlgoodies.com

Does anyone know of any free Chinese fonts for PDAs? In particular, I’ve got an (English) Windows Mobile 2003 iPaq.

All the searching i’ve done has only come up with expensive programs which give you font+dictionary etc. which i don’t really want …
