My wife is Taiwanese and we are doing business at a night market for 2 years.
Since my wife is Taiwanese, I dont need working permit and I can do business at night market. People who do business at night markets dont need to pay taxes as I know.
I have 2 questions regarding doing business at night market.
We dont have any formal papers from government since our shop is not registered. The only paper we have is contract which shows we rent that place. My country wants me to prove that I work in Taiwan and they say those contracts arent enough to prove it.
Is it possible to register the shop for the last 2 years? or
Is it possible to get any formal documents from anywhere?
I have informed them since my wife is Taiwanese, I can work at night market and I dont need to register my shop or pay taxes. Then, they replied “If I prove that I dont need to pay taxes or register my shop, then they will accept me as I am working here”.
Is it possible to get any documents which show I dont need to pay taxes or show I work at night market?
That seems unlikely. Probably the situation is that they generally don’t and the government doesn’t bother to try to wade through it. I’m willing to be corrected though.
Maybe I’m correcting myself a bit here, this is interesting, from 2014 though
I don’t know of an exemption specifically for night market businesses. I thought it depends on how much money a business makes (like with fapiaos), but the government probably assumes that night market businesses are low-income.
You file your personal income tax every year, right?
I also saw those news but noone pays taxes or their shops are not registered but franchising. If so, when i went to tax office, why they didnt inform me that i have to pay taxes when i told them i do business at night market?
If you haven’t filed for years, they will probably have some questions for you.
Without filing, I don’t know how you can get a statement of your income, but you can try asking them, the city government, or the MOEA for an official statement about night markets that you could give to the other government.
Because Taiwan and other countries have agreements to share personal financial data. So if you work in Taiwan, Taiwan shares that information with USA tax authorities. And the US is one country that wants to tax that income.
The monthly sales threshold for businesses to apply for tax registration is likely to be raised to NT$100,000 for goods and NT$50,000 for services to keep pace with inflation (potential implementation on Jan. 1)
