Or it just takes 2 days instead of one to become

Hey all,
during our wonderful exchange semester in Taipei a year ago, we also found it difficult to find public trash cans. Because of that, the idea was born to create a little app that helps to spot bins and keep the city clean

Unfortunately, we are not anymore in Taipei, but maybe it helps other people having the same struggles and may see this post
Currently, it’s just on Android as iOS is too pricey and only in English
Thank you for giving back!
I don’t find difficult it
All MRT station, most of bus stops, Al 7/11, family mart there are trash cans,
Some countries have lots the public trash cans and they’re have lots the trash outside the can
Japan have less trash cans and it’s very clean
Taiwan system = you pay for your own trash disposal.
Public trash bins = everyone pays for everyone’s trash.
Some places, small shops being a big part, generate huge amounts of trash compared to a family.
Could raise taxes, set up public trash bins everywhere as an eyesore, smell and rat collector, and then every single individual can help pay for every shop and restaurant and business owners trash.
Set up public trash bin beside your front door, see how you like the view, smell and the rats and whatever else shows up.
People like something until it’s in their face and then not so great.
Trash collection trucks come by daily, some places 3 times a day or maybe more.
I think before they had this system where you had to take the trash to the musical truck, they had dumpsters. They smelled bad and were rat magnets. Can you imagine how much worse would Taipei be if in addition to open sewers and binglang juice everywhere, there are also dumpsters every block full of rats, flies, odor, etc.? The system is necessary unfortunately. I remember when I was little Taipei was quite disgusting, with trash everywhere. Now the city is much cleaner.
There are public trans in MRT stations, maybe some bus stations, and convenience stores.
What they do need is some CCTV system so if someone keeps dumping residential waste there fines can be handed out.
I think this is only a Taipei thing (with those special blue trash bags)
In Tainan and Kaohsiung we don’t use them and can just throw anything in the truck.
My problem has always been with the dropping of trash anywhere instead of finding a trash can. The amount of bubble tea cups, fried chicken wrappers, etc. on the ground is crazy. If you didn’t have people cleaning every morning, everywhere in Taiwan would be so much worse. The really worst though is when people dump their bathroom tissue trash bag by the side of the road— all that fecal matter on those tissues now blowing around in the air and touching so many things. It also falls off the trash trucks, which most people don’t get — they insist that “if everyone properly disposed of their trash, we wouldn’t have these problems with plastic in the ocean”. Um, not quite.
Yeah the musical trucks are definitely necessary. Now after all the discussions on this and other forums about this topic I realise that it’s totally logical how Taipei changed their system.
When there would be trash bins everywhere, why should locals pay for the blue bags? Also as far as I understood it, recycled trash is free to dispose, to recycling is really encouraged.
In the end it’s probably a service to the tourists, but also to help reduce trash at common “trash hotspots” in the city (food district, clubs).
Definitely an interesting approach, really interested to see what else Taiwan will do to fight trash issues.
Taichung as well, no charge
The issue I have is people don’t want to ‘litter’ so often people will ‘place’ their garbage on someone’s scooter so it becomes someone else’s problem
Just go to 711? MRT? ![]()
