No water supply!

topic moved from Technology

Suddenly, I found that there is no water supply in my apartment. After checking online, I found that sometimes water supply is cut for various reasons. Is this is a common thing here?

I don’t think it’s that common. If it’s something scheduled, there would most likely be a notice posted at the entrance to your apartment or in your mailbox. That might be more likely to happen in the daytime too.

There are a lot of variables you haven’t mentioned though, like where you live, type of building, if you have a separate water tank, if you have a separate pump that might be turned off, if it’s really “no water supply” or just reduced flow…

If you live in an apartment, there isn’t (AFAIK) much that can go wrong here that wouldn’t be obvious already (e.g., a burst pipe), unless there’s some flow and you have a pump to increase the pressure that you’ve accidentally turned off (like I do, and which I accidentally turn off sometimes), and there isn’t much you can do about it at 2 a.m. If you don’t have a pump, I’d probably wait until the morning and see if it magically resolves itself.

It’s not common, but it does occasionally happen for maintenance reasons, and as Andrew mentioned somebody ought to have posted a notice about it. If you have a building manager, just ask them.

I only ever notice that sign on the day they come to do the work. I swear the workers just put it up minutes before they start.

Around the time of the drought, maybe this time last year(?), they had couple of surprise supply cuts. They rerouted some pipes, and the water ran yellow/brown for about a day or so. There was a news article stating that they had fixed it about a day later, but during that time there was no obvious communication to residents. Maybe there was some notice on some corner of their website.
