Hi there I’ve been reading some of the threads here about steps on getting taiwan id. I think I’m getting confused here. I have a taiwan passport but I’ve been reading about this thing called a “TYPE 2 CITIZEN”
My question is: Can I get my taiwan id?
Here’s my background:
-
Foreign born ‘Taiwanese’
-
Both parents are Taiwanese, emmigrated from Taiwan over 30 years
-
Both parents haven’t been living in Taiwan since
I have talked to some people and I was told that my passport isn’t a ‘real’ passport and that I can’t use it to get a taiwan id (so I can’t be a ‘real’ citizen?). If so, then what the heck has been issued to me? :help: Also, I was told that one of my parents had to be living in Taiwan. If anyone can shed some light on how I’m supposed to go about getting a ‘real’ passport it would be greatly appreciated.
The ROC Constitution clearly says that all people are equal . . . . . . so I guess you don’t have anything to worry about.
How did you get your current Taiwanese passport? I have never heard of a “non-genuine” passport before. I am also a foreign born Taiwanese and my parents have never returned to Taiwan ever since our family emigrated. I got my ID by first applying for my own Taiwanese passport. I took my mother’s old expired Taiwanese passport (has my baby picture in it) and took it to the foreign visa office whereby they issued me my own passport. Then, when I returned to Taiwan, I applied for my Taiwanese ID at a government office (I forget the exact name, something related to census) by filling out a form, presenting my Taiwanese passport and a copy of an old household registration showing that my parents and I have lived as Taiwanese citizens in Taiwan.
I did this about 4 years ago so I don’t know if the rules have changed or not. Hope this helps.
If your passport does not have an ID card number in it that is because you need to register here before your ID card can be issued. I became a Taiwan citizen and I got a Taiwan Resident Certificate and I had to live here for one year without leaving before I got my own Household registration documents and ID card.
This passport will allow you entry into Taiwan but does not give you working rights…
