Meh, I still found the people in Saudi Arabia much more friendly, warm, and welcoming. Ok, they also don’t want immigrants, and treat migrant labor worse, but speaking just from personal experience, Taiwan is particularly not too friendly. Ok, maybe it has nothing to do with being a foreigner
What i should ask you to consider is whether you are feeling threatened before entering these experiences. It’s hard to apply benefit of the doubt when too many of our experiences have been negative, but it’s best we try
Taiwan is kind of in the average zone for friendly. It’s just hyped up as being super friendly so people get disappointed. The Taiwanese are kind of fierce especially the aunties. I guess that’s understandable as they’re from generations that survived this once savage little island.
Averages. I don’t assume every local meal I get here is going to be awful, but I know the average is low.
Same thing with driving abilities and behaviours. Not everyone is clueless, dangerously selfish, and unable to perform basic maneuvers like left turns, but the average is very low.
Yes, there are unfriendly people and friendly people everywhere. There are also averages…
Can I categorize that as Cliche. There are always outliers the mean is what we are trying to establish. Yes , we are generalizing and we are all aware of that.
Anyway Malaysia has for the most part been very friendly In My Experience.
My worst fear going out in public in Italy is making eye contact with someone who’s an acquaintance. They will 100% come and talk to you for 30min stopping the entire day.
That seems to be common in a lot of places. It’s why my mom embraced not dying her hair (she went grey long ago) and mask wearing during peak COVID. She could blend in as another old lady and no one recognized her. She said it was amazing how much time she saved not having to chit chat when all she wanted was to get her errands done.
