Notebook now and laptop when I leave OR laptop now?

hi anybody,

will be here for another two years. got a laptop now i want to replace but i don’t need to be mobile.

will it be better to get desktop now, dump or sell it when i leave and then get a laptop here or back home or should i just get a laptop now.

just wanna surf, mail, downlaod music, burn cd’s and play games.

any advice anybody.
thanks

You can do all that on a second hand desktop for around nt$8000 or less. Buy a cheapie, dump it when you leave, and get a brand spanking new notebook at a trade exhibition (discounts) when you leave.

blue, why not buy a new one, sell it when i leave and then buy a laptop?

I tend to agree on the buying new sentiment. Prefer to buy phase out models… Ya get new kit that’s not too slow. Further, memory is cheaper on the departing models and you can drop a new CPU or graphics card in any time.

But, whatever you go for buy brand name.

I’m also in the market for a new machine and have debated between a laptop or a desktop. Right now, I’m leaning towards an unusual solution most people never think of - a rackmount case. It’s heavier than a laptop and it won’t run on batteries, so if you want to sit in Starbucks and surf, it’s not the right machine for the job. But it’s “transportable”, even if not quite portable. If you want to see what these machines look like, here’s a good example:

I haven’t yet looked around Taiwan to see what’s available (I’m in Taitung, you can’t buy these machines here, so I’ll need to go to Taipei). Has anybody looked at these? Anyone know a shop that sells them, or can order them?

regards,
Robert

Anything you buy now will be obsolete in two years anyway. So just get the one that is best for right now.

you may be dead in 2 years as well so buy it now… at least thats how canadians think, being in debt is part of our culture
