JUSTA RANT .

Got my old (circa 2004 ) compaq desktop back from work (they gave me a new old puter) and i had to install the wireless thingy on it cuz its on the other side of the room from the physical ethernet . So had to mess round with it. Ended up having to use the internal reformat feature and start from ground zero. But oh great, Microsoft has to reinstall SP2 and then SP3 and all the attendent do dads that go with it. All the starts and restarts and what not. Kept me up till 2am two nites in a row, the flockers.

And now finally everything (except the media player, which refuses to start no matter what) works.

Now i got a (somewhat ) working old desktop , still with only 500mega of RAM so its no rocket. And cuz its not blazin either with the wireless thingy. AS slow as 18mps. Usually 36mps or sometimes 50 something mps. Which made it as fast as my netbook (which ran at 54mps or so most of the time ).

im giving away my netbook to my gf (rather then buying her a new one). Yeah im sweet like that.

Now im thinking of getting another. I saw two that i kinda like.

One is 399 at bestbuy for a LEnovo netbook. Pretty sweet keyboard. I think it was duo as well and 2g RAM. And i saw one at Walmart tonite that was pretty sweet too. Acer , i think it was 11inch or a bit larger for 299. 2g Ram, AMD duo core.

Not sure if i should get another netbook tho (which means getting another external cd writer) or a proper notebook (i think most of em are ugly and big or nice and 14inch but expensive).

or use like300 bucks and get a rockin desktop , like duo core and 4g and all that jazz.

i was thinking of converting my old desktop to ubuntu but i need Internet Explorer for company work and have to have windows for that. DId i say Windows sucks? Well i will say it again.

But then WINDOWS IS DEAD, LONG LIVE WINDOWS.

Windows 8 is the new best thing (or perhaps the last hurrah) for mICROSOFT

Actually I think Microsoft is on an upward curve at the moment. Xbox 3, Kinnect, Mango and Windows 8. The Daily Mail article is factually wrong as it states Xbox contributes substantially to their profits but that is far from the case, while it is now profitable after a long loss making period it produces only a small % of total revenue, it is their core Windows and Office that still spins out vast amounts of cash. The Xbox is important though as it is their link into consumer devices and consumer entertainment.
The stock has been underrated for a long time but could be in for a bit of a move if Microsoft keeps scoring successes.

yes shes currently the “candidate” GF , the in-the-works version at moment.

Back to the puter , i dont know what is what but i just cant get media player to even open. Cant get vmc player to open either, weird. Now will try real player.

iv done anti virus checking, all the windows updates, and the restarts with the software checks, etc.

wonder whats up with the thing.

So you’re using 8 year old hardware and an 11 year old OS, and a wireless standard that’s susceptible to all sorts of intermittent environmental factors (is your neighbour using the microwave), but still it’s Microsoft’s fault your Redtube videos keep buffering :loco:

Meantime, i still cant get any players to open up. Now downloading RealPlayer to see if that works.

Ok i now pronounce my old desktop dead. That is the Windows XP sP1 that is pre-intalled on the harddrive (separate partition) is dead. It simply , after many days of uploading and converting first to Sp2 , then to Sp3 , will NOT work. IT will not disk defrag and is getting glacial in pace.

AFter another reinstall back to the ex factory specs. The 4th time. IT still is fcuked.

So i think i will turn it into a UBUNTU desktop. Hopefully ubuntu will work on it.

But which version of ubuntu to go for tho. Heard latest one is controversial and not stable.
